Book Description

Complete Medical School Preparation and Admissions Guide March 1, 2000
Quoted in Compton's Online Encyclopedia and used by thousands of students, counselors, and premedical advisors, the 3rd edition of Dr. Goliszek's popular book includes everything one needs to know about medical school preparation and successful admissions. Areas covered include medical and premedical curriculums, the MCAT, study and test-taking skills, medical school interview, minority admissions, extracurricular activities, financial aid, alternate health careers, high school preparation, medical school selectivity and national rankings, and much more.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Goliszek's guide, although fairly well written and generally comprehensive, does not include much in the way of unique material, with two exceptions. The first is a chapter dealing with minority admissions, a subject not generally covered very well in other medical school admission guides. Secondly, Goliszek provides some well-reasoned advice on selecting a foreign medical school as an alternative for those not admitted to a U.S. medical college. Still preferred is the traditional Medical School Admission Requirements, United States and Canada (annual, Assn. of American Medical Colleges). For a more nontraditional perspective John A. Zebala and Daniel B. Jones's Medical School Admissions: The Insider's Guide ( LJ 12/89), which is written in a lively fashion by two medical school students, is recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Useless if you're intelligent or non-traditional, July 24, 2001
By
Benjamin Shine (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Medical School Preparation and Admissions Guide (Paperback)
This book has incredible insights like "manage your time effectively" and "choose a quiet place to study." Also it's totally aimed at people who knew at the age of 15 that they wanted to be doctors. It has nothing to say to vaguely non-traditional students -- people who are coming to medicine after being out of college a few years, or not being science majors, or even just in their last few years of college.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found everything I needed in this book, August 1, 2000
This review is from: The Complete Medical School Preparation and Admissions Guide (Paperback)
Of all the medical school admission books I've seen, this one seems to have everything you need to guide you through the entire process from begining to end. There are great chapters on the admissions process, the MCAT, and especially on the kinds of extracurricular activities you need to make you a better candidate than other applicants. After reading Dr. Goliszek's book, I felt as though I had an advantage over my classmates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the Best, May 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Medical School Preparation and Admissions Guide (Paperback)
After reviewing several medical school admissions books for premedical students, I would have to rate this one among the best. In addition to the regular topics such as premedical education, choosing the best colleges, the MCAT, medical school interviews, finances, etc., Dr. Goliszek's book also includes inside information other books omit and a wealth of resources that students can refer to again and again for advice that will make them much better applicants. Highly recommended.
