4.0 out of 5 stars Brazilian Nu Yorica, September 13, 1999
This review is from: Complete Muse Recordings (Audio CD)
In case this album never receives an Amazon "review", basically Dom Um Romao was a Brazilian percussionist (analogous to Airto Moreira) who played with Weather Report, Sergio Mendes, and other well-known Latin, jazz, and fusion artists. The two albums collected on this CD were his first, both recorded in 1972. The sound could be described as the Brazilian version of the nuyorican aesthetic - cold electronics coexist with jazz improvisation and Brazilian roots textures and melodies. Most of this music consists of memorable, sometimes strange melodies and, of course, plenty rhythm. Definitely a great value, moneywise and musically.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dom Um ... WOW!~, September 12, 2011
This review is from: Complete Muse Recordings (Audio CD)
This is a genre that I am just beginning to explore - but I believe this funky/samba/jazz disc will provide delights for years to come!

I found Quarteto Novo last year (...)and am feeling awestruck lucky to have found another gem. This is not formula Samba - love it!
