4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good
It has a lot of foods listed, but I felt like they left some details out. Under carbohydrates, they don't list how much comes from sugar, they don't break down how much saturated fat, etc. Not a bad book though. When you consider that mos foods already have a label, this book is handy for fruits and vegetables and other things that tend to come without one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great . . .if you could read it!
I guess all the information you need is in there somewhere, but unless you're looking for lots of fast food restaurant fare, you're out of luck.

It is very difficult to read the food categories at the top of the page, because the print is so small and it is printed with a black background. The book is printed on the same type of paper that paperback novels are...

I guess all the information you need is in there somewhere, but unless you're looking for lots of fast food restaurant fare, you're out of luck.

It is very difficult to read the food categories at the top of the page, because the print is so small and it is printed with a black background. The book is printed on the same type of paper that paperback novels are printed on, almost like a newsprint. I had great difficulty reading the type. Not exactly the author's fault, but still a downside for me.

I didn't find the book to be very useful for the types of food I eat, which do not include fast food restaurants. I was very dissapointed.

In summary, I guess all the information you need is there, it's just difficult finding it. I would not buy this book again.

It's been almost Eight years ago that I had surgery because of my morbid obesity. Now, I was searching for a handbook to help me learn the nutritional values of foods. I was limited to a strict regiment of healthy foods and I wanted to choose the very best I could. That's when I found Lynn Sonberg's book. What a huge help to me!!! No where before had I found all the information I needed in one little book. A book so small I could drop it into my purse and have it with me whenever I needed. Only the informative introduction reads like a book, the rest is like reading a chart. Easy to find what I'm looking for and complete in every facet of nutrition! I found my weight loss bible! I hope all weight loss surgery candidates find this book and win their battle! This book made my battle easier because I finally understood what I was eating!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless and outdated., January 4, 2007

This book was written in 1993. While reviewing it, I noticed just how wrong the details are. Compare the details in this book to some of the brand name products. MANY are lower in fat, or calories, etc.

Foods change over the years. Believe me when I say, you want the most current and comprehensive reference when it comes to a food almanac.

Do not bother with this. It is now a paper weight, nothing more. There are better choices. Go to a local book store, peruse the many selections and select a CURRENT and comprehensive guide. Do not go for the CARB hype books. You need to know all the basics at the very least...protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sodium, and a guide that breaks down the types of fat would be the best...as long as it is current!!!

I found this book useless, it's not complete. The only vitamins it shows are A and C, what happened to all the other vitamins that are in food. Also calcium and iron are not the only minerals we need, a nutrition counter it is not! Don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy easy!, February 9, 2009
This book allows me to look at specific foods and brands. It shows most all of the nutritional information. If you want to know which potato chips have less sodium check this out. It also has information for fast food restaurant menus (which is awesome) you can look up which hamburger has less calories. a great deal!
