This is a good reference book. However, there are other more current reference books on the market that are better and more up to date. The Administrative Assistant's and Secretary's Handbook or The Office Professional's Handbook has more detailed information.

The Complete Office Handbook attempts to be a guide for everything that administrative assistants may need to do in a typical office. In it's attempt to cover everything, it only skims over most topics. I bought this to get some tips on office etiquette, but the section on etiquette was quite brief and covered things that were mostly common sense for people who have worked in an office before. The other thing that you might want to be aware of is that the section on office technology is out of date since this was published in 2002. I would only recommend this book to fresh college graduates who haven't had any office experience. If you're in that situation, you'll learn a lot about what it is like to work in an office. If you've had any office experience, give this a pass.

This is an excellent book. It covers many areas of office procedure and etiquette, including electronic forums. I would recommend this book as an excellent guide for the office.

The good: the book is ordered quite well and would be useful as a quick reference for a number of topics. I especially liked the section on global travel.

The mediocre: though chock-full of information, most of it is at the basic, common-sense level.

All in all, this book would be great for the admin just starting out. It doesn't hurt to have a copy kicking around the office for those that might need a quick refresher.
