5.0 out of 5 stars Good book for recruiters looking to start their own business
This book is great for recruiters who are just getting into the business. I noticed that someone else wrote that it wasn't useful for those who have been in the business for a long time. Well, if you read the back cover and the overview of the book, it clearly states that it is for beginners, not for experienced recruiters. I too have noticed a few typos in the book. I...

This is the first time I've read a book when it was obvious to me its only purpose was that the author could say she authored something.

It is so over-simplified and incomplete that my hunch is the author tried to write an article about starting a recruiting business and nobody wanted to publish it (even for free on the Net) so she decided to publish the information in a book.

Other "reviewers" must be friends of the author Im baffled by their reviews and can see no reason why anyone would say anything good about this book it was written for shameless self-promotion. This incomplete, tiny, guide filled with sunshine and roses, paints a completely unrealistic picture about becoming a recruiter. (In her world new clients are always happy to hear from you and finding qualified candidates is a snap she gives no practical advice on how to find new clients.)

The entire book took 25 minutes to read. It contains about 60 pages of information (written in large font with plenty of white space) but includes an insulting 40 blank pages entitled "Notes" (just in case you missed something!) and endless pages of worthless Internet links she included to fatten it up. She omits standard industry resources Essential to new recruiters - either because she doesn't know or doesn't want you to know. I cant imagine that this author is stable because no one in their right mind would think of this as a complete guide, or any kind of guide to starting a recruiter business.

Chapter 1 consists of 5 pages of written words + 4 blank note pages this pattern continues throughout the book.
Its the worst, cheesiest, business book I've ever bought. No matter how desperate you are for the information, please don't waste your money or you'll end up like me - feeling scammed and knowing all about the authors company. Better information is available free on the Net.

Lastly, it should be noted that this person is not a recruiter. She is a recruitment researcher, which means she helps executive recruiters find candidates and has likely received some recruiter assignments as an extension of her research service. This is important to note because finding candidates is so difficult that recruiters hire executive researchers to find candidates; an extremely expensive service. However, she includes no practical information on how to find candidates; everything is happy in her book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!, April 24, 2003

Terrible. It was absolutely terrible. I'm ashamed of myself for having wasted the money -- especially since I read some of the other reviews warning me not to do so. I agree with the reviewers who wrote he felt scammed and the other who said you'd be better off buying your own blank note book and filling it in yourself.

Although this book had some useful information-it was very very basic-some of the information regarding the sales aspect of recruiting was not realistic either and painted a very pretty picture about the process. Although the information is useful-it is best used as a resource for those who know nothing about recruiting.

This book is just another example of people trying to make a quick dollar and get a publishing credit by scamming people into believing they'll learn to recruit. Most recruiting firms spend tens of thousands of dollars and many months training top quality recruiters to work with employers to find talent. What makes anyone think that they could possibly cover the subject in less than a hundred pages of material? Authors like this are the reason the recruiting industry continues to have a poor reputation in the eyes of many employers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money...., September 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Owning And Operating a Home-Based Recruiting Business: A Step-by-Step Business Plan for Entrepreneurs (Paperback)
At first glance, it seems like the author wrote this book within one afternoon. Too many blank pages, not worth the money, and definately too elementary even for the beginner. I finished reading this book in about an hour! Sorry, but I suggest that people avoid this book at all cost.

I only have two wishes. One is that I could get my money back, the other is that I could put a rating of zero. If the author was looking for filler, she could have referenced any of the 10,000 business plan/startup books available. Instead she put blank notes pages at the end of every 5 page, useless chapter. I am new to this industry and even I feel less knowledgeable having read this ...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not much depth -- not recommended, September 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Owning And Operating a Home-Based Recruiting Business: A Step-by-Step Business Plan for Entrepreneurs (Paperback)
This book just scratches the surface of setting up a home based recruiting business -- but not much else. There are many more indepth recruiting books on the market (and in the Library) today -- don't waste your money on this one. Most of what you will get out of this book you can read in any number of "setting up home based businesses for dummies or idiots or whoever". Very little content in this book is recruiting specific (Her "Recruiting Overview" chapter at the end of the book is only 2 pages long -- with alot of spacing between paragraphs -- that says something in itself).

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst business book in the history of paper!, February 27, 2007
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Owning And Operating a Home-Based Recruiting Business: A Step-by-Step Business Plan for Entrepreneurs (Paperback)
I was excited to receive a few of the books covering this topic, which I ordered from Amazon recently. Oh my goodness, this book is so devoid of any value that I actually feel sorry for the author. She is, I'm sure, OK with things, since she has successfully fleeced many buyers out of their money. However, prior to today, I had not seen a book that has 5 note pages at the end of each short chapter. I would have more respect for the author if she released this book at the 30 or 40 pages of actual content that is included. Note that I didn't say GOOD content, but simply content. I actually found myself laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of this book. In reality, it's inspiring. I am going to write a book now, with 40 pages of content and 60 pages of summaries and note pages. If this piece of poo can sell, I know I can write something to cash in on people's stupidity.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless recruiting Book, November 15, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Guide to Owning And Operating a Home-Based Recruiting Business: A Step-by-Step Business Plan for Entrepreneurs (Paperback)
Whoever rated this book more than one star must be a relative or friend of the author. This book is an absolute rip off with a whole bunch of pages filled with web site links that all recruiters should have heard of. There is nothing informative or new in this book if you are already in the recruiting business, and if you are not currently a staffing consultant there are definitely better books you could buy that will help you bridge into the industry.

I was disappointed. There's not much here of value. "The Complete Guide?" Not even close. Avoid!
