Nice source for basic organ instruction. Includes some good exercises and a selection of standard pieces for budding organists. A little dated, but still relevant.

John Stainer starts you out on Ancient Flutes and shows you how the organ may have been born from them. Giving the student 6 pages of parts and history of the parts of the Organ, on page seven he is talking about the footwork gear and where they came from. Did you know, John might as, that Mr. H. L. Roosevelt, of New York, was the first organ-builder to patent and introduce with success the adjustable combination action, and, then comes the reversible Pedals or pistons, tremulant automatic suitable bass, and so on. Part IV, begins the practical and Stainer believes the student who wishes to become a good organists will start her/his training on the two octaves plus pedal-board and presents 15 pages of practice for the foot board. The book is 132 pages long. After learning where the feet go, the student is immediately introduced to reading, exercises for manual touch and and how the organ is touched by the player. John Stainer works for independence of hands and feet and an occasional knee. It is my everyday practice book and it will bring the student through from the ancient pipes and flutes to the modern keyboard in complete form.

This method book has always been the "rule of faith" for organ study. I remember it back in college [College of Wooster Music Conservatory] and it still resonates with the correct way to play the organ. Don't play pedals? Buy this book and learn how. Without pedal study it is impossible to play with both hands and both feet. This is a complete study of the instrument.....the King of instruments! Do it now..... You won't be unhappy with the Truths contained therein.

it discussed more about the historical development of an organ but left out the "why's" of its sound evolution. my organ voice trainer is from holland & he advised me to listen to different music era to be abl eto understand how the pipes work; i should've spent this money to buy the audio instead.
