Bach for professional listeners
What I found amazing about this boxset is the opportunity to enjoy Bach in complete form. From my point of view Passacaglia performed by Werner Jacob is a five star performance. Also BWV 593 and BWV 596 push up and show up no limits for the listener. This 16 CDs aggregate the perfect union between the artist, instrument, listener and Bach. And at the end of the day I can...

Uneven and sometimes flawed
Listening through this survey of the Bach organ works is frustrating. It is by far the worst recorded of those available, regardless of age. In the case of familiar much recorded historical instruments such as the magnificent Freiberg Silbermann organ, it is easy to compare. I suspect it is uninspired placement of microphones that often renders the sound muddy and...

Uneven and sometimes flawed, October 16, 2008
This review is from: Complete Organ Works (Audio CD)
Listening through this survey of the Bach organ works is frustrating. It is by far the worst recorded of those available, regardless of age. In the case of familiar much recorded historical instruments such as the magnificent Freiberg Silbermann organ, it is easy to compare. I suspect it is uninspired placement of microphones that often renders the sound muddy and distant. Jacob sometimes sounds very matter of fact and occasionally downright bad. It is a sloppy production in general, for instance, on Disk 11 track 10 is not the fugue of BWV 545, it is the Largo of the Trio Sonata V! This recording should not be anyone's first choice for the repertory.

Bach Organ Works on original organs, October 23, 2004
This review is from: Complete Organ Works (Audio CD)
121 organ tracks or works on 16 CDs has to be spaced out in about six days. The music is so restful I found myself dowsing. The price for a new set through Amazon was right. Bach organ hymns made Luther.
