This is a technicians bible. I'm just learning about pc repair and upgrading and this book is everything I need to know about when to do what and when not to do something. This is a book I'm going to keep around for a very long time.

Minasi has created a book that spans the development of PC technology. Without a foundation in the history of computer technology, current hardware and software issues would have no meaning.I found the book easy to read, easy to understand and more importantly easy to use as a reference book for computer problems. As computer technology is developing and changing at a rapid rate, books on the subject will be out of date by the time they leave the publishers. This book will endure for several years as an excellent source of computer related information.

The Complete PC Upgrade & Maintenance Guide,

I really like the book. I have the 8th and 9th editions and feel the book is very informative for beginners and for the experienced PC techs. There are thing that I sometimes forget and I use the book to research things. I also use it when I have trouble with my home PC that I built. I don't think I would have gotten as far into computers if I had not had this book to assist me in my education

An extremely informative book. An essential guide for the beginning PC builder and troubleshooter. Not written in technical language and extremely easy to understand.

An informative easy-read but lacks colorful graphic clarity.,

This is an enlightening computer tech guide for novices like myself who have spent hard-earned money in repair shops like Best Buy & CompUSA. If you like dry tech-style language then this book will not impress or attract you. But if you want a comprehensive computer tech guide that puts the reader at ease in a humorous but detailed manner, then The Complete PC Upgrade & Guide is a very good introduction. So far I've installed memory without difficulty using Minasi's information. The only drawback is the graphics & Cd that is supposed to "show & demonstrate" steps. There are two cds with the book. PC Tuning is a good utility for troubleshooting basic problems fast & repairing them. The second cd is a waste of a good cd. It gives you "snipets" of Manasi's showing various hardware & devices. No one has ever learned how to do something from a "glimpse" of the procedure. This is really worthless! If Manasi's $800.00 seminars are so good & effective I would suggest he create a cd set covering repairs & upgrades of various computer models & put it on the market as a separate product for guys like me who are looking for a reasonable cost-ffective way of fixing their own computers. Also, I know from experience that the easiest way to teach someone to do something is a "colorfully, photographically, clear step-by-step" method that leaves nothing to chance. If Manasi could create a CD Set & or book that incorporated his lively & informative style along with loads of colorful & clear pictures or in the case of the CD good video step-by-step methods, he would make a ton of money giving the average Joe what they need to repair, upgrade & maintain that stupid little box that we've come to rely on so much. Sincerely EChaney

Ancient and obsolete,

Not unless you work on dinosaurs would you want to read this book. If I had the ability to return the book, I would have. It was a waste of money. It's true that to understand how computers work it's important to know their developments, but Minasi's tome keeps getting thicker and thicker with each edition; he covers the modern technologies, and does not remove the outdated references to hardware like the ST506 interface. Usually you would find those cards as door stops or as boat anchors.Minasi rambles on and on. His coverage is very much in depth, yet it is not written in a style for a book of a technical nature. I would not recommend the book for its coverage of current systems; if you cover old ancient systems, it makes a fair reference, though.
