5.0 out of 5 stars More from the best..., September 12, 2010

This review is from: The Complete Peanuts 1977-1978 (Vol. 14) (The Complete Peanuts) (Hardcover)
There are sequences of panels that I had intended to mention, but I've been trumped. Oh well! That fact changes nothing because I can't recommend Volume 14 of the Complete Peanuts series enough. For those of you who enjoyed the strip during the run you'll find old friends waiting for you. As I've said in earlier reviews of The Complete Peanuts, I am in a serious time warp whenever I receive one of these volumes. I can't help but recall where I was living, what I was doing when these comics first appeared. I'll admit that I didn't always read the daily installments life being busy and hectic regardless of the part of the cycle I was in. But I read most of them. In 1977 I was teaching at a small technical institute in the mountains of North Carolina. I was there in 1978 also. My infant daughter had been born. Sweet memories that are always there but somehow are made fresher when I read these comics.

All of the characters that we all know and love are present. Marcie, the lovable misfit, is one of my favorites as is Lucy. Snoopy's sports career takes a unique twist. He also has some unpleasant experiences with a neighborhood cat. Wonderful reading.

I continue to highly recommend.

Peace always.

As anyone who follows my reviews knows, I'm a big fan of Peanuts and love the fact that this series of the complete strips is being published. In this volume, you'll find some great sequences: Snoopy partnered with Molly Volley in tennis, the cat next door carving various shapes into Snoopy's doghouse, the attempt to find an "owner" for Spike, and a sweet sequence with Sally and a friend from summer camp, Eudora.

We've now passed the half-way point and are on the downhill slope to the end. Fortunately, there are still more than two decades of great comics to come, and I'm looking forward to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Peanuts, February 16, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Peanuts 1977-1978 (Vol. 14) (The Complete Peanuts) (Hardcover)
This is where Peanuts keeps on getting better and better. Snoopy is so cute. Three new characters come in Molly Volley, Eudora, and Crybaby Boobie. Lots of Sally which makes sense on why she is on the spine of this book. Peppermint Patty is on the cover at last but is not in as many comics as she was in the last one. 1977 was the first year not to feature Patty. Includes a lot of strips that were never included in Peanuts Classics books. A great book to get if your a Peanuts fan. I can not wait for the next one to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great collection!, April 23, 2011

This review is from: The Complete Peanuts 1977-1978 (Vol. 14) (The Complete Peanuts) (Hardcover)
Although many of these strips can be seen in collections, it's nice to have these two years together as one. I anticipate giving this as well as all of the other books to my son when he's old enough.

The introduction by Alec Baldwin is intriguing as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem, January 8, 2011

This review is from: The Complete Peanuts 1977-1978 (Vol. 14) (The Complete Peanuts) (Hardcover)
I own every Complete Peanuts volume in the series and look forward to each release. This volume, while having a few slow spots, has some great off the wall sections, most already listed in the item description. On of my favorites was the ultra competitive Molly Volly, who seems to be a little girl version of some of the 70's bad-boy tennis pros.

Shultz only got better as the years passed! This volume, like all the volumes before it, is absorbing. If only Shultz could have done another decade...or two.
Oh, what a character Snoopy turned out to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marcy being deprogramed because of Great Pumpkin worth the price of this book!, November 2, 2010

Sparky's sense of humor can only happen through his strip. This book worth the price. Marcy's parents had her deprogramed because they thought Linus was a member of a new cult about the great pumpkin. I own every book so far because this work is timeless!

Here we have the 14th volume in Fantagraphics series of books reprinting the complete run of the Peanuts comic strip. This particular volume covers the years 1977 and 1978. This is one of the greatest comic strips of all time. If you are a fan of Peanuts, you should get this book.
