The Complete Pekingese Ch. Shiarita Bobbie's Girl. Bred and owned by Liz and Paul Stannard.

About the Author

Liz Stannard has been involved with the Pekingese for some thirty years, breeding, showing and judging them. In partnership with her husband, she set up the Shiarita kennel and bred her first Champion in 1970. Since then she has owned 15 Champions, nearly all homebred, and her kennel is known worldwide for producing top-quality stock. Liz was Britain's top Pekingese breeder throughout the eighties, and owned Ch. Shiarita Cassidy, the Top Toy and Top Stud Dog. Shiarita Pekingese have won Best in Show at all levels, including all breed Championship Shows. A number of winning kennels have based their lines on Shiarita, and there have been Champions carrying the prefix to many countries. Liz is a Championship judge of the breed, and has travelled all over the world on judging appointments. In 1992 she had the honour of judging Pekingese at Crufts. A prolific writer on Pekingese, Liz is also in great demand for her judging and breed seminars.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Pekingese, September 20, 2002

I was needing a book about the behaviors, training tips, and how to care for my dog. This book is about the breed, where it all started, and the breeding lines. It would be good for someone wanting to show or breed their Pekingese.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of "The Complete Pekingese", June 22, 2000

I am a Pekingese breeder and Ms. Stannard's book lived up to my every expectation. Her writing is clear and concise. The photos of the dogs are well done, especially the grooming photos. This book shows the absolute cream of the crop of English dogs and is not to be missed by any serious Pekingese fancier. The book not only speaks about current top English dogs and kennels, but makes great reference to the great kennels of the past. There is also a chapter on North American dogs. I am sure that this book will find it's way to the bookshelves of most Pekingese breeders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expert advice from the expert, September 13, 2000

I recently (as in a week ago) bought a delightful male Peke puppy named Tai, and we will be going to our first puppy match in a few days. This book has been immeasureably helpful in outlining the show process and I have gleaned much information from its pages. The detailed descriptions of champions of the past was particularly helpful, as I am now quite familiar with many of the kennel names such as Toydom, St. Aubrey-Eldson (where the famous St. Aubrey Dragonora, Westminster BIS winner in 1982, hailed from), and the author's own kennel, Shiarita. I advise anyone who is even thinking of letting this wonderful breed into your lives, to buy this book.
