Book Description

0781269016 978-0781269018 March 1992
1884. In this volume, for the first time, is a complete collection of Whittier's poetical writings. There are pieces in this collection which the author would "willingly let die." It is now to late to disown them, and Whittier must submit to the inevitable penalty of poetical as well as other sins. There are others, intimately connected with the author's life and times, which owe their tenacity of vitality to the circumstances under which they were written, and the events by which they were suggested. Illustrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier, January 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Complete Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier (Bcl1-Ps American Literature Series) (Hardcover)
John Greenleaf Whittier is one of the best American poets in my opinion. His writing is very down to earth and humble, yet it still manages to capture the beauty of simplicity in life through very carefully plotted lyrical lines. One of my favorite poems is The Barefoot Boy and I would recommend it to anyone who likes poems about nature and innocent childhood. This is a great book of poetry and it is very timeless. Next to the Bible I think this is my favorite book so I would highly recommend it to you.
