While he does provide a very informative chapter on how to buy a puppy, which would be useful for any purebred puppy buyer, the bulk of Dahl's book is geared toward the serious aspiring breeder and exhibitor. He also provides detailed illustrated guides for the major show and convenience grooming styles and for maintaining coat. Best modern poodle book with excellent coat-care chapter,

This was an excellent all-around poodle book. I have several, but this is probably my favourite. I have a black standard and although he is not a show dog, the chapters on coat care, how it grows, grooming, etc. were very in-depth. Though I think that it was geared primarily to people in the show circle, pet owners of poodles should not be put-off. I also have Eileen Geeson's book on the standard poodle and Bruce Fogle's Dog breed handbook on the poodle, both also valuable resources. The only thing I found a bit lacking in Del Dahl's (and Eileen Geeson's) books was there was not enough information on temperment and personality.

I have had poodles for over 30 years, but I still learned a tremendous amount from this book. I first got it from the library, but it has so much information that I needed my own copy because I refer to it all the time. It is hard to describe grooming without a video. He managed to do a grest job of it through pictures and text. I especially like the series of pictures that show the development of a show dog from puppy to adult.

This book gives in easy language everything you have to know about how to prepare your puppy to a show dog. I have standard who I love but I had big problems with mentaing his hair. With this book he boceme Slovenian champin, Croatian Champion and he is on a good way to become Austrian and International champion too.
Thank you Del Dahl. Now I don't only love my standard poodel but I can mantain his show coat on my own
