This was an excellent all-around poodle book. I have several, but this is probably my favourite. I have a black standard and although he is not a show dog, the chapters on coat care, how it grows, grooming, etc. were very in-depth. Though I think that it was geared primarily to people in the show circle, pet owners of poodles should not be put-off. I also have Eileen Geeson's book on the standard poodle and Bruce Fogle's Dog breed handbook on the poodle, both also valuable resources. The only thing I found a bit lacking in Del Dahl's (and Eileen Geeson's) books was there was not enough information on temperment and personality.

I have had poodles for over 30 years, but I still learned a tremendous amount from this book. I first got it from the library, but it has so much information that I needed my own copy because I refer to it all the time. It is hard to describe grooming without a video. He managed to do a grest job of it through pictures and text. I especially like the series of pictures that show the development of a show dog from puppy to adult.

This book gives in easy language everything you have to know about how to prepare your puppy to a show dog. I have standard who I love but I had big problems with mentaing his hair. With this book he boceme Slovenian champin, Croatian Champion and he is on a good way to become Austrian and International champion too. Thank you Del Dahl. Now I don't only love my standard poodel but I can mantain his show coat on my own

If you are a new, or soon to be, poodle owner, definantly get this book! It is wonderful, lots of great info, it mainly focuses on showing/breeding, but it is still great for the pet poodle owner! It also has a lot of great pictures of top winning poodles, from the past and today! This is definatly a must read!

This book opened the door to the poodle world for me. It contains many top dogs, and a wealth of pictures. It contains the standard for the breed and some helpful hints on interpreting that. Common sense eye-opening advice on showing, breeding, and kennel development. I loved it! If you are serious about Poodles, this one is a must.

I'm just an owner and bought this book purely from a consumer's point of view. The book mainly deals with breeding kennels, the show ring, and "professional" topics such as this, but there is a section on grooming that is helpful (less the stuff about the show ring). It's fun to see pictures of other poodles, and the book has quite a few. Of special interest to me were the pictures of the same dog at different ages. For a consumer, I would rate this book about a 3. For a would-be or novice breeder, 4-5. Beth, owner of Marjonlie Chocolate Truffle, a very happy little "it."

One of the most comprehensive poodle books ever. Beautiful photos, outstanding dogs, complete details from choosing the puppy to groomming and showing your dog. The coat section is awsome! I have many poodle books but this one is definetly one of my favorites.

...and I own a lot of dog books. This book is enjoyable to read. It contains so much information on poodle breeders, showing, grooming and even training. I read it cover to cover in just a few hours.

This is the most comprehensive poodle book written in recent times. It covers everything from top knots to pom-pom tails. This book is very easy tho understand and so complete in it's information. From the poodle's newbie's to the old timers, this book belongs on your shelf.
