God bless Jack White….while I was never a huge fan of his own music, he obviously has incredible taste…he has a serious fetish for all things vintage and over the course of the last decade he has progressively brought music from the past to the present…first with his productions of Loretta Lynn and Wanda jackson and now with his reissues of the Document & Paramount material…of all the lot he has released to date, this first disc of the complete recordings of Charley Patton is arguably the most important. First, Charley Patton is widely acknowledged one of the two genuine giants of the delta blues (along with Robert Johnson). Second, this disc presents all of Charleys' historical first session all in one place (plus two tracks from his second session). This first session is generally recognized as one of the two or three greatest single recording sessions in the history of the blues….and this release happens to be a great way to get it…why??? For starters, the sound is very well remastered and on a par with previous Yazoo releases, and it comes on quality 180G vinyl with extremely cool artwork. So if you want to start exploring vintage blues reissues on vinyl, this would be an excellent place to start…if you haven't made the vinyl plunge yet, I would opt for one of the aforementioned Yazoo CD/MP3 releases as they are the best of the digital lot….ENJOY!
