If you haven't heard this lady's voice, you are depriving yourself of one of the 20th-century's greatest pleasures, thankfully sustained in the 21st thanks to the Austrian collectors who supplied the raw material for this compilation. Bessie Smith got all the fame, but Lizzie has more character, more color, and more fun. I have all three volumes now, and I scarcely need anything else to be human.
