Last recordings of the great Mamie Smith & Her Jazz Hounds., September 17, 2000

Mamie Smith, one of the finest blues singers of the 20's, is featured on this excellent CD by the european Document label, which is reissueing all of Smith's recordings, these are Smith's final sessions, and they are all classics. Mamie only recorded four CD's worth of music(vols. 1-4) are all recommended, this Vol. 4 is excellent and features many great performances by Smith & Her Jazz Hounds which feature stride pianist James P. Johnson(who tought Fats Waller to play piano). Lot's of Dixielandish material as wel las blues. Fun as always, recomended to tradional jazz collectors.
