4.0 out of 5 stars Delta Guitar Genius, January 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Complete Recorded Works, Vol. 1 (1929) (Audio CD)
The first 14 cuts, recorded in Richmand, Indiana, are state of the art recording for the time, and recorded at the same time period as some of Blind Blakes greatest recordings for recording quality. The last 6 cuts were recorded late in 1929 in Grafton, Wisconsin, at the Paramount studies and of lesser quality technically. That being said, the sheer genius of Patton's song writing and guitar playing are unsurpassed musically. One could wish that Document's founder Jonny Parth had made more effort to EQ the recordings instead of just recording them flat, but the scholarship is first class, and making all the recordings available to the general public instead of just hardcore collectors was a noble endeavor.
