A good forgotten vocalist,
By Beth "bethiejw2" (Mesa, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Recordings 1934-1937 (Audio CD)
Peg Lacentra is one of the many big band vocalists like Judy Ellington (Charlie Barnet's vocalist) that have been forgotten over time. The 2 set cd includes her Artie Shaw sides and some songs she did for movies. The Shaw sides are superior. The linear notes are well written and the author shows not only that he researched but that he admires her. Very few of the songs are up tempo but she does show she can do it with "It Ain't Right". Mostly she comes across as a beautiful classy old fashioned ballad singer. As she sings you can imagine her in a dressing gown in a nightclub. The best song in here is the first, the catchy "This Little Piggie went to Market" but "The Fortune Teller" isn't too far behind.
