Nice set of Anita O'Day standards... and some rarites too...,

This review is from: The Complete Recordings, 1949-1950 (Audio CD)
This is a great set, that finds Anita in her young prime, highlights include a swingin' version of "Them There Eyes" as well as many other O'Day standards, and a few rarities such as "I Apologize." This well rounded set is highly recommeded, as is just about anything else this living jazz legend recorded.

That voice! That fabulous voice! A GREAT CD that no true Jazz Fan can live without! The clarity of this CD is amazing and Miss O'day is, as usual just SPECTACULAR! Run, don't walk to buy this CD...you won't be sorry!

I can only think of two white jazz singers who had an original style, Mildred Bailey and Anita O'Day. About this time Ms. O'Day stopped singing with the big swing bands which she had been associated with from the early 40's and started to record with smaller groups. Her totally original sound really begins to blossom during this period and it is interesting to compare these recordings with her later work at Verve with Norman Granz. I can't think of any O'Day recordings that I wouldn't recommend and this group of standards is no exception.
