Southern answer to XTC,

This review is from: The Complete Recordings (1981-1988) 2 Disc Set [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
Known in the south via college radio, these guys were a cross between XTC and the English Beat. Check out "The Upper Room". Largely ignored and too eccentric for bland MTV tastes, this band put the fun in the 80's club circuit.

Great Southern Ska Band,

This review is from: Complete Recordings 1981-1988 (Audio CD)
This band was hot in the southeast club scene back in the 80's, particularly in Chapel Hill. Their sound is ska, with a distinctive horn section. "She's Gone Dub" and "Policeman (In My Neighbor's Yard)" are classics. "Fakin' Dub" and "Where the Cowboys Went" are a couple of their most popular songs. This album includes two full disks of their work, and it's fair to say it's "complete" -- perhaps a bit too much so, as some of the songs are really obscure, even for a fan who was there at the time.
