5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Works by the Founding Father!! Get it while you can!!, August 23, 2009
This review is from: The Complete Recordings of the Father of Western Swing 1932-1937 (Audio CD)
This is the Real Deal - a dream come true for true fans of Western Swing: EVERY TRACK ever recorded by Milton Brown and The Musical Brownies, in amazing sound quality! Cary Ginell and Roy Lee Brown (Milton's brother) collaborated on this 5 CD package as well as on the definitive biography of Milton Brown, and they did a marvelous job of preserving this music. These songs are of great historical importance, but they also make for hours of insanely enjoyable listening! You hear the blending of country, blues, jazz and pop into a distinctive style that became known as Western Swing. Milton Brown's distinctive musical style was a forerunner of the rockabilly music later made famous by Elvis Presley. The accompanying jumbo booklet has biographical information plus a track by track analysis. Beware of imitators: there is a cheaper 4 CD set being sold under the title "Daddy of Western Swing", but it is shoddy, pirated merchandise, with some songs even running at the wrong speed. You'll be glad you spent the extra money for the Texas Rose 5 CD set. "Milton Brown and the Musical Brownies: The Complete Recordings of the Father of Western Swing 1932-37" is a treasure! Get it now before it goes out of print!
