GOOD LIVE CONCERT,
This review is from: Complete Recordings (Audio CD)
Joe Henderson teams up with the Wynton Kelly Trio for a live concert in Baltimore 1966. Joe is in good Blue Note form and sound quality is great. It's a 2CD set. A couple of stray live trio tracks are included to fill both CD's to capacity. A great buy.

A Good Set,

This review is from: Complete Recordings (Audio CD)
The music is very good and I really enjoy it. Everyone in the band is excellent. I especially love the rendition of "On A Clear Day..." and "On the Trail." (f you like this song, you should hear the treatment that Jackie McLean/Dexter Gordon give it on their two quintet albums on Steeplechase). The Wynton Kelly quartet sides come from some lp's that have some scratches which repeat and recur in some sections. It would be nice if a better source for this live performance becomes available in the future. As with so many live sessions, once you start listening, you don't even focus on the problems with the recording quality. Until that happens, this set is well worth hearing and it will have to do. On a positive note; however, it does not seem as though the sound has been heavily filtered to get rid of vinyl lp noises. I would rather live with the pops and clicks that go with old or damaged records than have the life sucked out of a recording.
