5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book! Practitioners must!
This book explains Reiki Very well. The pictures are done a very spiritual way. ALL the hand positions are also explained. Too many times I have seen books that leave out the positions that close to or are over the private parts. Even though these are not hand positions that should be used on every client, it is important to show these postitions for treatment...

I received my Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) Master/Teacher certificate last year, and am a member of the GRMA (Global Reiki Masters Association). After receiving my M/T certificate I started reading Reiki related books in hopes of finding one or more that I could recommend to the students that come my way. Unfortunately this book isn't it! Too many times I have seen books that leave out the positions that close to or are over the private parts. Even though these are not hand positions that should be used on every client, it is important to show these postitions for treatment options. The realation to the Chakras and Reiki are very important. Walter has done an excellent job tying the two together and explaining how they react together. (because they do!) Good Book for practitioners!!

I have the following problems with this book. 1. In the illustrations both the Reiki practitioner, and the person receiving the Reiki treatments are shown nude. If a Reiki practitioner ever asks you to disrobe, walk out and contact the authorities. 2. This book shows some inappropriate hand positions. A Reiki practitioner should never touch private areas of the person receiving the treatment. In fact; with level II or above Reiki practitioners need not touch the recepient at all. 3. A complete lack of the symbols used with Reiki. 4. A complete lack of directions of passing Reiki attunements. 5. This book delves into subjects that have absolutely nothing to do with Reiki such as divination by pendulum, and others. I don't like to write harsh reviews like above, but I see it as a duty to caution others that come after me about questionable material. If you have questions or comments about Reiki or other related sbjects feel free to contact me by E-Mail

After seeing this book at a Reiki workshop, I have since purchased it and all of Walter Luebeck's Reiki books. They are excellent, and his love and tender care taken towards the subject shine through with tremendous clarity. As for the nudity, I'm not bothered a bit; Mr. Luebeck indeed has a disclosure in *all* of his books that the pictures are for clarity only, and to make sure that it is crystal clear where the hands are placed. I do not practice in the nude, nor would any of my clients wish to receive with either of us nude. That said, the pictures do impart a warm, non-sexual innocence, and reinforce how powerful and natural this work is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid information on Reiki and how it relates to Chakras., March 12, 1999

This review is from: The Complete Reiki Handbook: Basic Introduction and Methods of Natural Application: A Complete Guide for Reiki Practice (Shangri-La) (Paperback)
This book was a great read! I have been looking for a good book on Reiki. This book tied Reiki with the Chakras and it really explained it well. It also gave great practical uses for Reiki (as if we need any!) Reiki is a gift everyone holds. Read this book! Great for beginners!

3.0 out of 5 stars Another manual..., December 5, 2000
This review is from: The Complete Reiki Handbook: Basic Introduction and Methods of Natural Application: A Complete Guide for Reiki Practice (Shangri-La) (Paperback)
A consice and clear guideline on Reiki and its applications. There are at this moment over 50 books on the market on this subject. Walter Lubeck is just one amongst many Reiki practitioners, therefore it is not surprising to find different opinions as to the best method/technique. With such diversity of opinions, it follows that there is no "complete" handbook. The author has skipped over historial background, the use of symbolism, and has diverted into divination with the use of the pendulum. The best way to go is to follow the advice of your Master or anyone who is well into this subject, before picking your choice.

I practice Reiki regularly and will soon recieve my Reiki 2 attunements. I have purchased several excellent books about Reiki as I have prepared for this attunement. This book is NOT one of them. It was disturbing to open the book and discover that all of the illustrations depict people in the nude. The author explains this with a statement that this was done to "convey the feeling of intimacy. freedom and love which is the very essence of Reiki". Reiki is a wonderful gift and provides a sense of well being to the reciever. I would RUN if anyone wanted to give me Reiki in the nude. The act of touching someone in the act of healing requires absolute respect for the other person's body and feelings. The "intimacy" suggested in this book does not feel right to me. The information shared about the practice of Reiki was not as useful to me as the information shared in other books I have purchased. I do not recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars there are better ones..., July 10, 2004

This review is from: The Complete Reiki Handbook: Basic Introduction and Methods of Natural Application: A Complete Guide for Reiki Practice (Shangri-La) (Paperback)
I was disturbed by the nudity in the book. I can see some sexuality in the drawings. The art is somewhat amateur in the sense that the illustrator tries to draw it in a realistic manner but cannot accomplish at times especially with the male nude.
The information is dated. A lot is not about reiki, unless you want to learn about the combination of other usages, so the title of the book should have been different.
It is not completely crap but I don't think I would recommend it.
