best latter-day UK Subs available, May 14, 2007

This is a fortunate release from New Red Archives: 1 CD that compiles both of the UK Subs 20th anniversary albums. Back in '96 the real UK Subs (Charlie, Nicky, and Alvin) reformed to crank out 2 albums worth of material. Quintessentials was released on Cleopatra records, Riot on New Red Archives. Both albums were incredibly good and remain a testament to how underrated the band always were. Both have drifted out of print, but NRA has done the admirable thing and reissued both as 1 CD. It really was the last "real" Subs record (the rest being Charlie running 'round Europe with hired hands) and should be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in '77 style punk rock. Good idea.
