I bought this book for vinyl siding. It is not helpful. The book offers a little info on a lot of subjects, making the book useless. There are 4 whole pages on vinyl siding.

Saved me big time doing my parents roof. I had don a few roofs 20 years ago but didn't know anything about needing a waterproof membrane for the first 3 feet. When the building inspector showed up that was all he cared about. Guy down the road had to tear his off and start over because he didn't have one. Only thing they could do to improve this book is to give it a non slip cover so I wouldn't need to climb down the ladder so many times to pick it back up.
Great book from a great series.

The Stanley Complete Series DIY books are well written for the non-professional. This series has allowed me to install new doors, windows, tile bathrooms and, yes...even shingle my roof. The photos and equipment are up-to-date unlike some books written decades ago and merely re-published every few years. It has clear and concise instructions on selecting and using roofing materials and tools. Can't go wrong with the Stanley books in your library (BTW you actually have to read them for them to work...sleep osmosis is a fiction)
