Hampton Hawes was one of those beautiful beings who could play jazz and make it sound easy. But the truth is that he had ears which could hear 'LIFE' as if it was on a different plain. These sessions give us insights about him which all jazz piano lovers should own and though he has been neglected these cds will not disappoint. And if you can find " As Long As There's Music" which is a duo with Charlie Haden just buy it. (It may be under Haden's name) but it is a rare Cd with some wonderful jazz.

Harold Land does not play on any of the 5 bonus trio tracks - 3 are from the same session and 2 were recorded in Rome. If you already have the OJC 6 track CD you might as well get a full Hampton Hawes trio session rather than re-purchase this one.
