Great Book for the Shiba Owner,
By Rebecca Baxter (Huntsville, AL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Complete Shiba Inu (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book. I breed Shibas here in America and even though this book was written by a UK breeder, it is wonderful. If you are considering getting a Shiba, you really need this book. It has a lot of great information on grooming and training a Shiba. I have all my future puppy owners get this Shiba book over all others. It is really geared for your typical pet Shiba owner, but breeders would also find it useful, especially in pedigree research of British Shibas.

If your new to Shiba's you need this book,

This review is from: The Complete Shiba Inu (Hardcover)
My husband and I adopted a shiba during an overseas military tour. Upon arriving in Alaska our vet had very few answers about our year and a half old shiba inu. We were scared out of our wits the first time she "threw off her coat". Our vet had no idea what was going on, we were worried sick. If you don't have access to alot of info on Shiba's this book is clear, concise, and very helpful in determining what has been going, is going, and will be going on with your Shiba. If you own a Shiba then buy the book. It will be immensley helpful in understanding your shibas quirks and keeping your Shiba disciplined, clean, and healthy. The more you know about your Shiba the more likley you are to outsmart him/her. The book was a great asset in outsmarting our little monster, if you have one or many, you will find something that will help you out in the book. Words of wisdom from one Shiba owner to the rest of us.

Good Book on A "Rare" Breed,
By
This review is from: The Complete Shiba Inu (Hardcover)
This book gives good information. Maybe a little heavy on the showing/breeding and a little light on the housepet stuff but that is fine. It is funny how it talks about the dog throwing up the first car ride home (mine did!) and its overall temperament. It was 100% accurate! Definitely buy if you are looking at buying or have bought a Shiba.

If you're researching the breed, this is your book. Very detailed background behind the Shiba, temperment, what to expect, breed standards, health, you name it, it's in there. Good resource book.

I've got a Shiba and I enjoyed reading this book. Has lots of pictures and gives great tips on how to care for your Shiba. Also has a history of the Shiba and how it came to England.

Great intro to shibas.,

One of two excellent books on shibas, the other being Gretchen Haskett's The Total Shiba. The Complete Shiba has lots of color photos (Haskett's is all B&W), and is good enough to be your only shiba book. The only reason to buy Haskett's instead of Atkinson's would be to get the great list of Japanese name suggestions. The publisher is no longer Macmillan - it's Howell Book House (Wiley), )Rockin' C & L Ranch Shibas, Bend OR

Hard to find, but worth the search,

This review is from: The Complete Shiba Inu (Hardcover)
I have not one Shiba Inu, but two. If you don't have a Shiba that sounds like no feat. However, if you do have a Shiba you may know that there is a certain level of challenge in owning a Shiba. This book was incredibly helpful. It had great pictures, information and resources for further information. You can tell it was written by a person who really knows Shibas. I wish I would have had this book a year ago, my life would have been much simpler. For anyone who has been captivated by those little almond eyes and going to buy a Shiba in the near future, buy this book. It's hard to track down, but easy to find than a canine behaviorist who is fluent in Japanese culture.

Beautiful, Curly Tailed Dog From Japan,
By
This review is from: The Complete Shiba Inu (Hardcover)
For those who love a Shiba Inu, then this is an ideal book. The Shiba Inu, often described as a miniature Akita (it isn't), is a beautiful curly tailed Japanese dog. This book walks readers through what owning a Shiba will entail. Breeders worldwide will get a lot out of this book, although it was written by a British breeder.
Readers learn about grooming, breeding and training this beautiful curly tailed breed.

This book is great! It informs the reader on how to take great care of your Shiba Inu when they are first born. The colored pictures and detailed drawings add to the fine detail the author has put into the book.
