the best books on ropework that I have found,
By David V. Winkler (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Complete Shibari Volume 2: Sky (Paperback)
These are the best books on ropework that I have found. The books are important enough that I will ignore the female breasts in the instructional bondage photographs. Some of the ties appear to be missing steps, but the photographs are of high enough quality that it is generally possible to reconstruct the missing bits.

This is a great book if you have some experience in rope suspension. The author notes that everyone should have some practical training (and I agree) before performing any of these suspensions. Good explainations on rope basiscs and really excellent simple how-to photos. Highly recommend this as an addition to any rope library.

Volume 2 of the "Complete Shibari" series is equally as useful and informative as the first installment. The book takes your through the basics to more advanced techniques with ease. The photo illustrations leave very little to question and very few assumptions are made of the reader. While this title stands very well on it's own, I do recommend that you pick up Volume 1. You will not regret the purchase.

Sometimes it's hard to write books for advanced practitioners of niche subjects. This book does it well. It doesn't hold your hand through the ties. If you don't know how to do basic stuff, get a beginner book. No, scratch that, leave your house and meet people. Find others who are into the same weird kinks you are and help each other get better. Eventually, you will understand what this book is talking about and be able to actually follow it. But by then would you really care? That's the question. I followed all the examples just fine, but I already knew most of it. I picked up a couple of interesting tidbits, but I can't say it dramatically changed anything I was already doing. Though given the dearth of books like this available, it's good for a coffee table book or simply to promote niche authors in the scene.

This is a great stepping stone into the touchy subject of suspention its very easy to grasp the concept there are no written instructions persay except at the begining for the usual safety tips and to explain the symbols used in the book. I do NOT suggest this if you dont read the first book or know the basics about basic safety.

This is a great continuation of the author's Complete Shibari: Land and builds upon the teachings in that book. It's not for mere beginners since it expands upon, but does not repeat, those lessons in Volume 1. The writing is clear and pictures are very easy to follow. I especially like that there isn't too much wordy writing. This book is about teaching the mechanics of rope suspension, not the philosophy behind it, so if you are looking for a well written "how to" this is your book.

I am a new Shibari rope enthusiast who is eager to learn different tying techniques. The step by step pictures in this book and in Land helped me learn th basic technics of rope tying. I am still in the process of aquiring the necessary equipment and learning the safety aspects for suspension. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in Shibari.

lots of usable instructions and very pretty models. 90% are topless, maybe 1 or 2 dressed. The pictures are bigger than the first volume, land. But the book small so the full size pictures are 5x7 maybe. And book is in stock so amazon had it to me in 1 week on standard shipping! (kentucky to atlanta)
