I having been wanting to get a pooch for some time and every time I got close to adopting, I hesitate before pulling the trigger. So when a friend recommended that I read this book, I thought it would give me some clarity. Either i should take the leap or I wasn't ready. And well, after reading this funny, heart-warming and insightful guide, I am ready to get my first dog. A rescued one-- thank you Ms. Rosenfeld. And I'm excited!!! This is a MUST read for any dog parents!

This book is an absolute necessity for anyone who plans to raise a dog. Filled with practical examples and wisdom, Betsy Rosenfeld gives readers all the information they need about choosing a dog -- from housebreaking to pet food to trips to the vet to all manner of sundry issues, this book is the bible for a single person who wants a canine best friend. I highly recommend this book. It is the ultimate guide for anyone who has or is thinking of getting a dog. Rosenfeld answers any and all questions a dog owner could have with humor and care. This book is an excellent resource. Rosenfeld has a humorous style which makes reading this book a true pleasure.

An easy read outlining all the details of owning a dog. Betsy breaks down everything: daily responsibilities, financial, emotional, everything...She missed nothing; not even a flee! This is a must-have for someone who has never owned a dog, even a good refresher for the existing dog-owner.

It's not easy being single and having kids -- 4 legged ones. Yet so many of us do. My personal observations are that single women tend to see dogs as kid replacements while single men tend to see them as buddy replacements. We need to see them as dogs.

There's lots of practical stuff around dog/life balance. Traveling, pet sitters and daycare... you need to think about this stuff before you get a dog. Or perhaps change the habits you already have.

This is a short, easy read that any single dog "mom" or dad "pal" will find useful.

This is a must have for dog lovers - if you are getting a dog or already have one you should have this book. It gives easy to follow tips and advice, plus I love that the writer is so involved in the dog rescue effort -it's obviously written with love.

Betsy Rosenfeld has really thought out every aspects of dog ownership.
She has organized her book with incite and interesting examples.
She writes the way real people speak! I own a dog and could not put it down.
A wonderful gift for anyone who thinks that owning a dog is not a lifetime commitment.

I devoured this terrific book -- it's filled with essential information and entertaingly written too. Rosenfeld really has the ruff stuff!

If you're planning on getting a dog (rescue only please!), have just gotten one, or even if you've had one for years, this book is a must.
