Book Description

September 1991
The first major work on the endearing "Wheatie", this book provides reliable information on every aspect of owning, training, showing, and breeding this genial Irish dog.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Although not a well-known breed, the Wheaten is gaining an enthusiastic following among those desiring a medium-sized nonshedding dog that is good with children. Vesley, a long-time fancier of the breed, offers more comprehensive information than is provided in Margaret O'Conner's Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers (TFH, 1990), which is tailored to pet shop sales. While the bulk of the text is on history, breeding, and showing and will be of primary interest to breeders and exhibitors, the pet buyer will also find frank and helpful advice on selecting, grooming, and training this affable and unusual breed. This is recommended for larger collections. (Photos were not seen.)--Jennifer King, Monmouth Cty. Lib., Marlboro, N.J.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is Not a book for beginning owners., November 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (Hardcover)
I had decided that by looks alone I wanted to learn more about the adorable Wheaten and searched for the comprehensive book designed with the beginner in mind. What I found was more of a guide to the lineage and breeder ranking for world class show dogs. This was not what a first time want- to- be dog owner has in mind. The word "complete" is a misrepresentation. I would not recommend this book to a novice such as myself but rather to one who travels in the dog show and breeding circles.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very positive book about the most positive breed I know., February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (Hardcover)
This book is a must for Wheaten owners. I have read it over and over. It is positive - in contrast to other books describing the history of the breed. It contains very valuable information on pedigrees, and it covers all the foundation dogs of the breed. I can't wait to read the new book on Wheatens by Roberta Vesley. Hopefully, it will be available soon.

This review is from: The Complete Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (Hardcover)
I had hoped to find a book that would give specific insights into the personality of these wonderful dogs. Unfortunately, this book gives little more than lists of Wheaten Terriers and history, without practical applications. There aren't even any color pictures. I was very dissapointed, and continue to look for a book that will help me make the most informed decisions in living with such a lively, and affectionate puppy.
