Somewhat Disappointing, December 22, 2000
This review is from: The Complete Star Wars Collection (Audio CD)
I bought the "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" single as a kid. It skipped. So I returned it, and they gave me a new one. That one skipped too. Years later, I found a new copy of it as a re-issue and guess what... it skipped! No lie!
So when I got this CD, I fully expected (and had no reason to doubt) that I would finally, 23 years later, have a copy that didn't skip.
Well... it doesn't skip. But it's also not the same music. You can find bits of the old one in here, but it's intermixed with a lot of other... stuff. There are lots of unnecessary sound effects and bits of dialog that are spoken by people who don't sound like Han Solo, Princess Leia, etc. None of that needs to be there.
That part of the CD was disappointing. It wasn't clear when I picked out this CD that it had remixes rather than the original singles on it. I felt a little misled.
On the bright side, though, the Empire Strikes Back material sounds a lot closer to what I remember. I'm not thrilled with the way it was remixed, but the differences are pretty minor and I can live with them. I'm just not convinced that they're an improvement.
This was the first time I heard the RotJ material, and I liked it. I was also pleased by the Duel/Augie's piece, though it could have been longer.
I didn't like the Cousin Jar Jar and Jedi Knight songs at all; I have yet to hear a Star Wars song with lyrics that doesn't sound childish or corny. Which is fine for a kids' album -- I still listen to "Christmas in the Stars" -- but I expected this collection to be geared towards more adult tastes.
In summary, I think that whether or not you like this CD will depend on your expectations... if you aren't looking for the original singles, you'll probably enjoy it, but if you are, you might want to listen before buying. But at least it doesn't skip!

Uneven and incomplete collection, November 24, 2000
This review is from: The Complete Star Wars Collection (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of MECO's music since the time of Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk. This latest CD was a disappointment. The fidelity of the album is poor, surprising when considering the tracks were digitally rerecorded and remastered. Case in point: The Empire Strikes Back tracks. The album title is a misnomer: Not all songs are complete as is the case with The Force Theme, Finale, and Ewok Celebration. And at a total CD time of 41:33, it wasn't due to lack of disk space. As for the new tracks, Duel of the Fates/Augie's Municipal Band stands out as the more interesting. But all in all, I found this a half-baked album. Meco should consider rereleasing some of his earlier LPs on CD, such as Encounters of Every Kind and Music from Star Trek and The Black Hole. As dated as disco may be, MECO was responsible for some excellent music.

Dance Your Asteroids Of (The Remixes of the Star Wars Music), April 25, 2000
This review is from: The Complete Star Wars Collection (Audio CD)
For people who liked the original Star Wars music from Meco, this newly remixed album is a MUST to have, all the songs are remixed and there are three new songs on this CD from the latest Star Wars movie: The Phantom Mencace.
