Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

This comprehensive, state of the art book takes a sophisticated look at marriage and family therapy supervision. The major sections of the book address broad areas that all supervisors should be knowledgeable about, including context, philosophy, relationships, pragmatics, and supervisory training. The major models of MFT supervision—from psychoanalytic to the postmodernism approaches—are presented. Ways of using a wide range of intervention strategies are highlighted including the use of genograms, reflecting teams in case presentation, and taped and live supervision. The book targets the objectives for supervisory training established by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. To extend the usefulness of the book, an accompanying resource guide contains practical tips, easy access to supervision resources, and forms that can be easily reproduced and adapted to enhance any supervisors's practice. For professionals working in the field of marriage and family therapy. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for MFT Supervisors!, April 18, 2002
By
Justin (Phoenix, AZ, United States) - See all my reviews
Todd & Storm have written an excellent text which is considered by many to be the standard for training supervisors who work with marriage and family therapists. They give a good overview of various approaches as well as ethical, cultural, and gender considerations. There are many specific skills, tasks, and strategies provided.

This is a very readable text but it is not "light reading". It will take some time to digest all that is in it. The authors do not bore you with endless quotations and dry data but this is a text so it provides a comprehensive overview of the current literature, major figures, and current thinking in the field.

I'm not sure I can say enough about this wonderful book. If you are considering becoming (or already are) a systemic supervisor, this is a must read. Cheryl and Thomas have a wealth of information and they present it well. This is a book you can read through or use as a reference. Plus, I wish you well if you intend to join me on the supervision track it's quite an interesting work.
