5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, and very timely
>NET is a revolution in programming and this book is just the tool you need to quickly familiarize yourself with C#, the .NET framework and the Visual Studio Environment. With its series of step-by-step programming examples, you'll be happy to have this as a reference alongside your MSDN.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to use as a reference book
This is a beginner to intermediate level book. The book is overall a good book, with all important arguments addressed although not in depth (ADO.NET has only 50 pages dedicated to it). What I however found incredibly annoying of this book is the impossibility of using it as a desktop reference. Index is indeed short (11 pages only!!!) and the table of contents does not...

this book is not a cover to cover reader but it is a great resource. it has already helped me on a project. Every developer should have this for a reference. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to program in C# or any .NET language for that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I saw on the shelf for C# and .NET, September 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Visual C# Programmer's Guide from the Authors of C# Corner (Paperback)
I've looked at several books for C# and .NET. This book is by far the best book I've seen covering most aspects of the .NET Framework. It covers extensively ASP.NET, Security, Graphics, ADO.NET and even Mobile Phone programming. I found the code and examples extremely easy to follow. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn .NET or needs a .NET Reference on their work shelf.

I am regular visitor of[web site]and think C# Corner is the best site out their for .NET and C# programmers. After reading few chapters of this book, I found this book could be used by variety of developers starting from graphics, Windows, database, mobile, security and Web development areas. I recommend it to any body who is looking for less descriptive and more practical material books.

I am usually very pragmatic in my opinions about books on programming. After saying that, this book is excellent. I have been working in Java/Unix for the last couple of years, and I am now in a position where I must work in C# as well. This book is well targeted for the experienced programmer who needs to come up to speed quickly on the vast and powerful Object Model associated with C# with no prior exposure to C# or .NET.

I have already made this book a standard reference at the company at which I work. I also have recommended it to a number of friends. It has a very impressive balance between level of detail and breadth. A number of subjects are covered thoroughly enough for the experienced programmer to quickly come up to speed with C#. It also is detailed enough to keep around as a valuable desk side reference.

The one thing I don' like is the user level rating on the book. It says that this book is rated for beginning to intermediate developers. While it does start at with some overview material on using the compiler and debugger with a .NET overview, I think that rating must apply to being new to C#/.NET but I don't necessarily believe that this book is adequate for a beginning programmer.

Jason Christensen is a principal at Evergreen New Media, and heads up the Business Integration Services division. Jason has over 10 years of experience in distributed systems, and 3 years working with web-services on both Microsoft and Unix platforms. Based on that experience, Jason and Evergreen New Media's Business Integration Services team focus on advanced platform neutral solutions to web-service architectures.

According to what I have learned this book is amaizing and tells every thing about using C# with databases and how c# works with them and you will be very happy when you read the chapter about windows programming, and also it gets very deep in describing ASP.NET as an introduction to the advanced material, and also covers XML ,and mobile programming!!!
I advice every c,c++ developer to buy this book!

This is a beginner to intermediate level book. The book is overall a good book, with all important arguments addressed although not in depth (ADO.NET has only 50 pages dedicated to it). What I however found incredibly annoying of this book is the impossibility of using it as a desktop reference. Index is indeed short (11 pages only!!!) and the table of contents does not list the pages at which each chapter starts. And this does not end it. Chapter names are printed on the top right corner of each page ... unfortunately the chapter number is not provided along with the title. What this means is that since chapter start pages are not listed and since the index is of no use, when I'm looking for a given chapter I often have to get back to the TOC various times to know the chapter number of the one I'm looking at to discover how far or near I am to my target chapter.
