Book Description

January 1, 2008 1583852018 978-1583852019
Bruce began his infatuation with Flight Simulator while taking flying lessons and dabbled in the game after Microsoft released Flight Simulator 95. Becoming a serious flight simmer with the next Microsoft release of Flight Simulator 98 that added many features and a more realistic feeling. Bruce had to give up his enthusiasm of being a real pilot after being diagnosed with a disabling disease. It was at this time that he decided to dedicate more time to assisting other new and experienced flight simmers on how to enjoy Microsoft® Flight Simulator by modifying AFCADs, creating Flight Plans, and designing repaints of various aircraft. Bruce never forgot how difficult it was when he first began playing Flight Simulator in trying to fly the larger planes and also the lack of instructions. The idea of flight simulator was to have the simmer enjoy flying around the world and to get the sense and appreciation of what real commercial pilots do on a daily basis. With this in mind, Bruce, wrote The Complete Visual Tutorial To Flying The Boeing 737 to assist the new and experienced simmer in learning how to fly like a real pilot and to begin their flight with taxiing from the gate to the assigned runway, to take-off, to landing and to taxing back to the stand all the time communicating directly with the Air Traffic Controller. Bruce is also a consultant and Coordinator of Safety at a local hospital in Connecticut.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately a bad buy!, May 4, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Visual Tutorial to Flying the Boeing 737 Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2004/FS9/FSX (Paperback)
Unfortunately this book does not keep what its title promises. It consists of lots of screenshots and "explanations" you can get for free from both the FS9 tutorial (delivered together with the program)and the internet. The author does only express 1:1 what you can read there. Lots of very important things are missing (Usage of flaps during landing/starting procedure. Making a nice glide slope approach,...) and many other things more. I could not find anything in that book, I had not already came across for free somewhere else before (e.g. internet). It is not a "complete" tutorial at all! Sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful for the new and old simmer, May 7, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Visual Tutorial to Flying the Boeing 737 Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2004/FS9/FSX (Paperback)
I am not sure what Mr. Strammer was looking for. I thought this book was done very well and was easy to follow. The Author never states either in the book or on the Author website that the procedures that he outlines are exactly the procedures a real pilot goes through when flying this plane. The author also states that even if he knew the exact procedures he would not have published them because of national security and to not contribute to another 911 incident. The author states that this was only created to help the simmer to easily fly the big planes and never stated the procedures were true to fact. I agree that most of the material in the book could be located on the internet but the author took the time to bring it all together so the simmer would not have to spend hours searching the net. If you want to fly this plane exactly the way the real pilots do then it is best you take flying lessons. I would recommend this book for any simmers that are ready to take on the big planes and to easily enjoy flying around the world. The first time I used this book I was able to take off and land without incident. Considering I use to crash all the time the book made it worth while and makes Flight Simulator a lot more enjoyable. Nice screen shots, easy to follow for the beginner and experienced simmer a lot of interesting information. I would recommend it.
