5.0 out of 5 stars Bedford Park Books version (14 book collection) September 7, 2010
By Melynda
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is another glowing review for the Bedford Parks Books version of the Complete Wizard of Oz collection. I am dismayed to read the bad reviews, of which most actually belong to a completely different collection of 15 Oz books.

I have a Kindle 2, and the Bedford Park Books set is formatted for the Kindle. I have had no problems with it. The table of contents is fully functional, with easy access to each chapter of each of the 14 books.

As one recent reviewer noted, this collection does not include The Woggle-Bug Book. However, that book is technically not an Oz series book, even if it does feature an Oz character visiting our world. Also, it clearly states on the cover of this collection that this is a 14 book set of the Oz series by L. Frank Baum.

I grew up with these stories, and I love them. I like that these wonder tales, unlike older fairy tales (Grimm, Perrault, Anderson), involve characters from late 19th/early 20th Century America that are transported to Oz.

Some other reviewer complained that you can find all of these books available as individual books for free. That is true. Nevertheless, I totally do not regret paying $0.95 for the convenience of getting all 14 beloved books together in one volume AND formatted for Kindle with an active Table of Contents. For me, that is well worth it.

I also have the Bedford Parks Books versions of the Complete Sherlock Holmes and the Complete Jane Austen for the Kindle. I have no complaints with those either. I would definitely buy more collections put together by them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rating Format; not book content December 28, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was in the processing of downloading each of the free Kindle versions of the Oz books when I came across this version. This version is currently .95, and for someone who is unfamiliar with the Oz books and what order to read them in this price is worth paying. I went to the internet to figure out what order the books were in, but knew that I would never remember the order while I was reading and would have to look it up each time. This Kindle version has all the books laid out in their proper order, with a nice table of contents. The ToC doesn't just list each book, it is actually laid out by chapter. So, for instance, you can jump ahead to chapter 14 of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - "The Winged Monkeys."

If you're worried about getting a properly formatted version, just be sure to download the newest version. Next to the book image and title, there is a "Formats" section with a + Drop-Down box. I chose Kindle Version June 21, 2010 and it is properly formatted. I am very much looking forward to reading this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole lot of magic for less than a dollar September 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
How anyone could possibly complain about getting the original "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and the succeding 13 sequels with one click for 95 cents is beyond me. My 10 year old read a paperback copy of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as part of an over-the-summer reading assignment prior to entering the 5th grade. He enjoyed it very much, as I did a long time ago> When I told him that there were 2 or 3 sequels, he was surprised ("Why didn't they make them into movies too, Dad?") and asked for them. When I looked them up on Amazon *I* was surprised to find out that there were 13 of them and that I could get them all for my Kindle for $0.95. Click and I had them, and Jacob has read the first 3 or 4, and now I have to fight him for my Kindle. A better buy you will never make.

Highly Recommended

2.0 out of 5 stars Oz without art December 26, 2010
By Damon
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
So I just received a kindle for Christmas. The Complete Oz Series, available at a more than reasonable price, was my second download. I haven't read it yet, but my dismay was great when I opened up the file to find that there are no illustrations. I know the kindle is able to handle them, it seems happy to furnish us with a beautiful illustration of birds and portraits of various authors, so I don't believe that it's beyond the capabilities of the device. And, sure, I don't have the thing so I can look at picture books, but how could you possibly release a version of the entire original Oz series without the illustrations that are a part of the book's renown? This seems to me to be a tragic oversight and not a good introduction to a piece of technology that I am naturally skeptical of to begin with. If this is attributable to the inexpensive price of the download, I would rather have paid more and gotten the whole experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! No formatting issues. June 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This collection was wonderful! My father read all of the Oz books to me when I was a child, and I am having so much fun revisiting these books and sharing memories with my dad. The only reason that I am giving it a four and not a five star rating is that the books are missing their illustrations, which were so fantastic when I was little.

I did not have any formatting issues what so ever. The book looks great, and the table of contents is complete and active.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Buy November 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
WhenI first saw this item was available, I jumped at it. I figured that 14 great stories for $0.95 was a bargain worth having. I got it, even though it did not have a linked Table Of Contents (TOC), and enjoyed it despite it's having it's share of typos. Just recently, I was notified that there is now an updated version with the typos fixed, and with a TOC added. Best of all, It was a free update for me, as I had purchsed the earlier version. I just downloaded it.The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection (With Active Table of Contents). Once again Amazon Kindle proves to have Superior Customer Service. This work is a classic worth owning...especially if you have kids, or grandkids, around.
