For the beginning Bible student, I would recommend getting this dictionary sometime after getting Strong's, a Bible dictionary, and Vine's. It will give you a little more depth than Vine's, and the entry titles are written in Greek so that you can practice recognition of the alphabet. But don't worry, you can still use this dictionary even if you do not know any Greek because it also has an English translation reference index (also a win-win situation, like Vine's.)

It is coded to Strong's just in case you really cannot find a particular word. You can compare the definitions of words with Vine's to get a second opinion, or you can just use it as a stand-alone reference. And not only are the words defined, but the author also gives you a lot of background information on important or difficult topics that you will not find in other dictionaries. This Word Study Dictionary, Strong's, a Bible Dictionary and Vine's will make an awesome start for your library. A ton of information here - a monumental work.

Every significant NT Greek word is defined as to meaning and grammatical use. Each word is keyed to the Strong's Concordance so the book's treasures are easily accessible to anyone. Really helpful are the numbers given for the parts of the Greek word which allows one to delve deeper into the original meaning. For example the word "to dwell" used in Colossians 1:19 - katoikeo (2730) = kata (2596) an intensive, and oikeo (3611), to dwell, reside. One can easily see how this word is put together, and reason on the richness of the thought that Christ has indeed come to reside in Christians permanently.This format allows one to travel extensively in the NT via the original language. Sure, Greek scholars can by pass this book, but for the average reader and busy preacher in the trenches of life, it is an excellent, quick and practical tool for careful Bible study

Imagine the Greek lexicon from your Strong's concordance on steroids. That's right. Zodhiates takes the Strong's Greek lexicon and amplifies it a hundredfold in terms of detail. An entry that might receive just a few lines of fine print in Strong's is instead expanded to whole columns or pages of discussion, with every conceivable nuance explored. Grammatical variations, derivations, synonyms and antonyms, and both lexical and scriptural cross-references are added to make this a truly invaluable study aid.

I cannot overstate my gratitude to the author for this immensely useful and insightful volume. This book is the perfect companion to your Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, because its entries are directly keyed to the Strong's numbering system.

In a nutshell, if you are at all serious about bible study, or think you will be or want to be, this resource will be of great assistance in your efforts. Keep in mind that this is only the new testament lexicon. The author also has a separate word study dictionary for the old testament. If you find this helpful, also check out the author's interlinear new testament or Jay Green's interlineal bible.
