I consider this dictionary a real tool for the study of the Old Testament words. I think it is better and more updated than the "Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon of the O.T." and more handy with bigger letters than the classic "The New Brown-Driver-Briggs-Gesenius Hebrew-Aramaic-English Lexicon". I think the book is directed to the novice as well as to the scholar student of the Bible. It is a pity that is not so much known as many other Hebrew dictionaries. Perhaps it lacks somewhat of the apparent and refined scholarship of other dictionaries, but personally I prefer its simple, concise and direct analysis of the entries it uses.
An observation addressed to Amazon: Why is it so difficult to find this book by searching it by its title inside the site of amazon.com?

If you are a serious student of G_d's Word you will be impressed by this most highly recommended Word Study Dictionary.

I recommend that you also purchase the work of Zodhiates, from AMG Publishers.

I assure you that it is compatible with the Strong's concordance; and that you will be delighted with the insight and inspiration involved in these great works.

For those studying the Torah or Old Testament, Theologians or philosophers alike will appreciate this great work.

Congratulations on such a fine work Mr.Baker & Mr.Carpenter! A lowly student.

The Word Study Old Testament Dictionary used together with the Word Study Old Testament adds depth and incite to many verses which we thought we already fully understood.

Though not technically part of Zodhiates' works, this dictionary makes an excellent companion to Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Old Testament, it is a very helpful source to look up English definitions of Hebrew words. Definitions range from a couple of sentences to a page or more.
Good for us non-theologians who want to understand the Bible better. Easy to use and understand. Not sure what to compare it to, but I found it much easier to just pick up and begin using than, say, Vine's. Also, I don't typically make use of a standard Bible dictionary in my personal Bible study, but this is different because as I read a text, with Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Old Testament open, I will repeatedly use this volume to understand as I go.
Using a word study approach to Bible study not only helps you understand its meaning, but also causes you to ponder more what is being said.

This is a complete word study and is useful for linguistic analysis, but like so many other experts, the author places too much emphasis on the etymology of the words. No one speaks a language like that. We don't think of where the word came from or what it used to mean unless that is what we are studying! The context is most important!

I absolutely find these books (I bought the whole set of OT and NT-4 books in all) invaluable when doing word studies. I'm not particularly happy about using KJV but I notice that my NKJV Bible has corrected most of the problems already and now I'm getting a deeper understanding of what the words I question mean and how they are used. I am more than happy with all 4 books. They are an invaluable study tool for the average person without the knowledge of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages.

I have always like to find out how things work, and my curiosity about why the real meaning of the words behind the Bible translations is no different. This dictionary gives a thorough and contextual definition to the Hebrew words. Using this dictionary along with Vines, various commentators, and a few other reputable translations really opens up the deeper meanings of the scriptures.
