5.0 out of 5 stars Lovecraft, in order and intact
This is the best e-book collection of Lovecraft I've seen yet. Other versions have typos, errors, and even entire missing chunks of text (for example, the first paragraph of "The Other Gods" has been missing from two different eBooks I've tried). Things like italics are left out, and the stories are presented in no real order. In other words, most other Lovecraft e-books...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good collection, but I don't like the formatting.
This is a good collection of Lovecraft's stories, but the formatting is like a lot of free public domain books with no indentations and line breaks between paragraphs. The font is also a size smaller than other books for some reason. I was hoping for something formatted like a regular retail book. I should have looked in the sample before buying, but it was only 99...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovecraft, in order and intact, June 23, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft (Kindle Edition)
In other words, most other Lovecraft e-books I've tried looked like they were shoddily slapped together, probably copied and pasted straight from Wikisource.

This collection suffers from none of that. The stories are in chronological order by composition, the text is (as far as I can tell) error-free, all those pesky missing passages are present, and even the italics are intact. I'm sure that if you read a lot of e-books, especially items from the public domain, you'll agree that having a clean, well-edited text makes a world of difference for readability and enjoyment.

I recommend the hell out of this collection.

If you're a fan of H.P. Lovecraft and a big Kindle user, this is the book for you. You can get the free version from her web site, but I'd rather spend the 99 cents to support the hard-working person who put together this collection. Also, this way it's synced across devices.

Awesome that she offers it for free (at CthulhuChick.com), but if you want to support all of her hard work in putting it together it's well worth the $0.99 charged here for this great collection of classic horror literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful value and an obvious labor of love, September 30, 2011

Please give this collection a try whether you're new to Lovecraft or a Lovecraft fan from way back who needs a collection for his new Kindle. If you're new to Lovecraft don't read them in the order presented here. The stories here are chronological by date written and as with most writers it took Lovecraft a while to develop his talent and find his niche. My recommendation would be to read them in the order presented in "The Dunwich Horror and Others":

In the Vault
Pickman's Model
The Rats in the Walls
The Outsider
The Colour Out of Space
The Music of Erich Zann
The Haunter of the Dark
The Picture in the House
The Call of Cthulhu
The Dunwich Horror
Cool Air
The Whisperer in Darkness
The Terrible Old Man
The Thing on the Doorstep
The Shadow Over Innsmouth
The Shadow Out of Time

If you're hooked then try the longer stories in this order:

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
At the Mountains of Madness

then the Randolph Carter stories:

The Statement of Randolph Carter
The Unnamable
The Silver Key
The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

and then the rest.

This collection is perfectly formatted for the Kindle. I can only think of two very minor flaws. The footnotes in "Ibid" are not linked but that is such a short piece it hardly matters. Also, some editions of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" have some of the ancient writings presented graphically but that is not the case here. It would have been nice to have them included here but you would never miss them.

I might have included one or two of his collaborations especially "Under the Pyramids" which Lovecraft ghost wrote for Houdini. I would certainly have included his long essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature". But that's just me.

"CthulhuChick" did a fabulous job putting this collection together (in several formats) and especially in formatting it for the Kindle which some publishing houses can't get right.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Collection of Lovecraft you can Find on the Kindle, August 14, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft (Kindle Edition)
I've been reading through this collection for some time as it is available at cthulhuchick.com

I was migrating to a different Kindle and I'm happy to pay 99 cents to support the project and save a step in transferring this title to my new device.

In essence, awhile back I was looking for Lovecraft collections and had come across this project. Nothing comes close to this comprehensive and accurate collection. Definitely worth checking out.

Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly edited ebook - classically presented., June 24, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft (Kindle Edition)
A few years ago I edited a collection of Lovecrafts works into PDF format, you can still find it floating around on the web, so I know what a work of art it is to do this and to do it well.

This is one of the best collections of Lovecrafts works you will find anywhere and by far and away the best eBook.

The fact that it is available for free from the authors website is testimony to the fact that this was a labour of love and it shows. The decision to present the tales chronologically is the right one and to focus on the weird tales makes this an accessible introduction to the canon as well as providing pretty much everything you will ever want in a single book.
Perfect for fans, devotees, cultists and newbies alike. ia! Cthulhu, F'tagn!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome edition for a great price, September 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft (Kindle Edition)
Not much to say about Lovecraft here besides that he is one of the most interesting "weird" horror authors you will ever read. His work provides an extraordinary look into his mind and into the fears he and others living during and after World War One held. His work speaks of madness and insanity going hand in hand with knowledge and enlightenment. He speaks of dreams and sleep as Poe spoke of premature burial. Any reader of horror, science-fiction, or fantasy must add this to their kindle collection.
As for this edition, Cthuluchick did an amazing job of compiling this. All the great things about a kindle e-book are here. The TOC is great, and the stories are ordered chronologically so you can follow Lovecraft's development as a writer from his first to his last work. For you single dollar, money could not be better spent.

I made the mistake of purchasing the copy that someone had made of this collection, only to have the actual creator email me and inform me of my mistake. This collection is worth the price.

This is about as cool a thing as I've seen in a bit. Thanks for putting it all together and making it available. Worth every bit of 99 cents, and probably 3 or 4 times that too.
