5.0 out of 5 stars Shakespeare.........$.82 Incredible deal!
WOW! I don't have to break my back carrying books! This is awesome! Some people have complained about no "Table Of Content"......when I opened up for the first time it was on the first page of "All's Well That Ends Well"......if you "previous page" back you will see whole table of contents!! I'm brewing my pot of coffee, lighting the fire and curling up to read! Excellent!

This review is from: Complete Works of William Shakespeare: 197 Plays, Poems & Sonnets (Kindle Edition)
I have yet to see a kindle edition of the complete works that any of the sellers actually bothered to read before going to market. This one by the Wright Angles is no different--misspelled words, incorrect words substituted, dropped words, etc. The editors left out the Dramatis Personae for the plays. There is no apparatus such as introductions, footnotes, etc. Overall,an incomplete and poorly edited copy of Shakespeare's works.

The one thing this edition has going for it is a decent Table of Contents. Not a great one--the works are arranged alphabetically, instead of by genre or order of composition.

The best thing I can say about this edition is that it is no worse than any of the other Kindle editions of Shakespeare's works that I've looked at, and better than many. If the adulterated text doesn't trouble you, by all means buy this one. But for an accurate text, you'll still need to get a print edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sworn upon all the books in England: The Best 99 Cents You May Ever Spend in the Kindle Store?, October 24, 2009

This review is from: Complete Works of William Shakespeare: 197 Plays, Poems & Sonnets (Kindle Edition)
Just posted to my blog at Kindle Nation Daily: The inside scoop on all things Kindle.

Shakespeare on Your Kindle, Elegantly Presented. The Kindle Store is where you can buy The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, including all of the extant plays, sonnets, and other poems with a hyperlinked Table of Contents and all of the texts formatted just the way they should be formatted, for -- and this is kind of amazing given how much work went into this elegant presentation -- just 99 cents.

Call me old school, call me a curmudgeon, but just don't call me late for dinner: for my money, this Kindle ebook from Kindle publisher The Wright Angles should be the #1 title in the Kindle Store (it's now #124 as of 11 AM EDT Saturday, but let's see if we can't do something about that!). So, why have I appended a "today's freebies" label to this post? Well, just think of this as 99 cents for Hamlet, and about 200 other plays, sonnets, and other poems for free.

The publisher's other titles include some interesting choices as well, and I for one happen to believe that it's really important for us all to support quality, useful independent publishing in the Kindle Store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imperfect navigation, but easy enough, December 3, 2009

When I first opened the file, the Table of Contents didn't display. I found it, but it seemed misplaced. But you can find it quickly by clicking on Menu and selecting Table of Contents. It really isn't hard to figure out at all, and the statement that the TOC has no links simply isn't true.

This collection is a treasure and is well worth putting up with imperfect navigation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price, December 10, 2009
This review is from: Complete Works of William Shakespeare: 197 Plays, Poems & Sonnets (Kindle Edition)
To have the complete works of William Shakespeare at you fingertips for less than $1.00 is a great deal. The navigation is not the best but it does have a hyperlinked Table of Contents. My major criticism is than there are no line numbers, which makes it difficult to find a passage. That aside, it's definitely worth it!

In the reviews I've read, there are no comments as to the edition used for this book. Shakespeare without notes can be difficult for the novice. Are there notes which define the Elizabethan words no longer in usage (standard for all modern editons)? Is this the First Folio edition? The Signet or the Folger edition? Why is there no "Look inside" option, so that you can review the text yourself? The same questions apply to the other Kindle editions. Whose translation of Tolstoy is used? Dostoyevski? Etc.

I did NOT care for this edition. I am going to delete it and spend a few bucks for one that is more complete. There was no list of characters! If you are unfamiliar with the play and cannot even tell if some unusual name is male or female, you spend many a page trying to figure out what is going on. I was very disappointed.

I bought this thinking that I would be able to hyperlink over to The Tragedy of Macbeth, but when I went to the table of contents, there were no links, nor was it possible to search on the title because it wasn't indexed. I think a book of this caliber should not be posted on the Amazon website for sale without searching capabilities! Let the Buyer Beware!

The description says it is "easily searchable." NOT! When I try to search for a word, it says that the product is "not yet indexed." Liar, liar...

P.S. I am removing this from my Kindle and purchasing Daryl Marks' version with the apocryphal plays as well.
