5.0 out of 5 stars For All Those Times You Wanted To Know What To Do When Your Elevator Was On The Freefall
Do you feel your child is about to go into the world without all the "necessary" skills? Do you feel your loved one isn't adequately prepared to face life's most daunting challenges? Have you ever wondered what to do if you're stuck on a raising drawbridge? Are you so paranoid that you look for an escape to every situation? If you answered yes to any and/or all of these...

3.0 out of 5 stars Know your reader - some parts may not be appropriate for young ones
Although the book has loads of useful/interesting/obscure information, some of it may not be appropriate for young boys or girls. The book definitely has helpful information that can be useful to know in certain situations; however, there are other parts of the book that tell how to "pad" (i.e. lie, which is not appropriate for anyone...) about your resume, where to hide...

5.0 out of 5 stars For All Those Times You Wanted To Know What To Do When Your Elevator Was On The Freefall, September 16, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Hardcover)
If you answered yes to any and/or all of these questions, then buy this book, NOW! This is your bible to every worst-case situation that life may throw at you, and more.

But don't think this is strictly a humor book, and sure it may contain some of that, like how to escape from a costumed character/mascot, or you should escape a meeting by crawling under the table, but there's plenty of serious entries to go along. For example, if your elevator is plummeting, something I fear all the time, then you should lie flat on your stomach to distribute the force. They do go to experts for many of these entries, and although I wouldn't like to test any of them, I'm sure they're pretty useful in the situation.

It's the best-of the long-time series, sure to help with most any predicament you may find yourself in. And for further reference, this edition contains a CD with ever scenario, in full, complete with a few wallpapers and screensavers for good measure. Just be warned, every scenario is in Adobe Acrobat format, which I hate since it's such a difficult program to navigate.

Overall, you can't go wrong in giving this as a gift to somebody, whether you're giving it to them for practical or enjoyment purposes. I highly recommend it for any rainy day, paranoid people, or anybody who just ever wondered what to do if... well, you get the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just eat this stuff up..., February 9, 2008

I just eat this stuff up, I really do. It covers a great variety of subjects and there is in fact applicable information for anybody (not just for stunt doubles and dare devils). It's way fun to read and share; gives great ice breakers. Also provides great delineation of what to remember, if you really do encounter one of the given situations. I found it more comedic than anything else, but it definitely is well written by pros. All in all, it was a fun buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Worst-Case Scenario series has done it again!, January 11, 2008

This review is from: The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Hardcover)
I have been very entertained with this book since I was a child. This book is a very interesting and good read with lots of great situations from everyday life to the extremes.

This book is great for emergencies but it's also good for everyday reading. It contains a lot of useful information gathered from other books in the series. Not only will you read about dangerous situations, but you will also be able to read about social situations such as meeting your date's parents.

The facts in this book seem very logical. It's not made up and misleading information. The author of this book/series has put a lot of research into situations mentioned in the book(s). This book and its information is not a hard to read book at all. The wording is very simple for you to be able to actually remember some of the steps for situations. Everybody from ages 6 to 150 years of age will enjoy and love this book.

For $16 this book is a very good deal. If you look at the other series (there are a lot) and add up the cost for each one, they come out to a ridiculous amount. This book is a combination of all the books except the history edition. It doesn't have everything in it, but it has the BEST of the BEST worst case scenarios. The book is also very well designed. The yellow cover and simple titling really make it attractive. The hard cover also adds to the "wow" factor. It's a great book to show off to your friends/family.

For $16, you get an exciting read, amazing information, attractive book, and maybe your life! I recommend this book to anyone! It makes a great gift.

Although the book has loads of useful/interesting/obscure information, some of it may not be appropriate for young boys or girls. The book definitely has helpful information that can be useful to know in certain situations; however, there are other parts of the book that tell how to "pad" (i.e. lie, which is not appropriate for anyone...) about your resume, where to hide bribe money during a riot (e.g. "in your crotch"), and issues regarding sex and reproduction. Although my son enjoyed a lot of the book, I find that some of these issues (e.g. how to deal with "wedding night jitters" and the "birds and the bees speech") are not appropriate for him to read about on his own (yet). Parents, as always, should be involved in what their kids are reading, and this book is no exception. I am writing this to help other parents to be alert to issues raised and covered in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good collection of the best in paper, plus a CD of all of them ... can't beat that!, December 31, 2007

I've purchased quite a few of these handbooks as gifts for the men in my life over the past couple of years and was excited to see a complete compilation of the best of them in one book. The gifts were always well received and I get to hear about all the crazy stuff inside. The CD that comes with it is a complete collection of all of the handbooks which is a great bargain for the price, especially considering what each individual book can run.

4.0 out of 5 stars *Not* useless trivia, January 8, 2011
This review is from: The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Hardcover)
This fascinating little book is a collection of How-To tips that could mean the difference between survival and a rather unpleasant demise. The authors rounded up the suggestions of a group of experts in their respective fields, and organized them by subject. Everything is covered here from How to Escape from a Sinking Car, through How to Escape from a Bear, How to Deliver a Baby in a Taxicab, to How to Survive When Lost in the Mountains.

On the surface this book might seem like a book of useless trivia, but such is not the case. In fact, only this past summer, in the city of Joliet, a Chicago couple took a wrong corner and took a dead-end street into a river. If only they had seen the section on escaping from a sinking car.

In all seriousness, this book does contain useful information that everyone should probably read at least once in his or her lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great conquerer of curiousity, December 28, 2010

This review is from: The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Hardcover)
When I had ordered this book, it was on a whim. I had no real reason to buy it or read it, nor did I have a want to own it. However when I had gotten it and started reading the first section, I was intrigued and kept reading. Before I had known it, four hours had passed!

Overall The short version of this is:

Pros: Teaches you various facts about surviving from: Animal attacks, date issues, vehicular death scenarios, and much more! It also includes a computer CD with an audio book of each section :D

Cons: I have yet to find one...

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny - Unusual, June 8, 2008
This review is from: The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (Hardcover)
Reminds me of the "Far Side" type of humor. It's very funny but at the same time the advice given makes sense. The situations are possible but very highly unlikely, like "How to escape from a sinking car" & "How to foil a UFO Abudction". The Chapters are, Animal Encounters, Great Escapes, Illiness & Injuries, Social Disasters, Domestic Dangers, &
Out and About. Includes a few golf senarios. A searchable CD of all 11 handbooks is included.
