The Complete Year series is a wonderful, rich, and empowering resource for teachers. The series provides just the support and structure you need with the flexibility you have always wanted. I watched my friends and colleagues use the lessons with such success and I have seen the joy for reading and writing that the lessons bring to so many students. I highly recommend these books for all K-5 teachers and administrators.

I just found this series after having read Pam Allyn's book, The Complete 4. I don't think I've ever seen a professional series by grade level, and certainly none that offers a whole year of teaching. Even though I probably wouldn't teach the entire calendar, I see lots that I could use tomorrow in my classroom. And I don't understand the negative review. From what I know of Pam Allyn, the co-author of this book, she has years and years of experience. And it shows in the thoughtfulness of the books.

This book is a wonderful guide that I can easily implement into my daily teaching. As a teacher who is always trying to find more time to fit in all of the required curriculum, I love how the reading and writing units described in the yearlong calendar are integrated. It's also nice to see that I don't have to totally change who I am as a teacher in order to use this book. It gives a lot of new and innovative ideas that I can adapt to my current teaching practice. I've also found the assessment and resource sheets on the DVD very useful.

The title of this book should be "The Complete Waste of Money." I was hoping this book would help guide me all year with all the reading and writing strategies a 3rd grader should know. I spent (wasted) SO MUCH TIME and ENERGY trying to schedule this book's lessons, only to conclude that the "lessons" aren't lessons at all, but more like supplemental ideas to add to a real Reading and Writing curriculum that you should buy. There are no lessons on grammar, for instance. If there is such a lesson, it is buried somewhere in those 240 pages... and I don't have the time to read the whole book just looking for things I need to teach! It is so user UNfriendly and frustrating!

I would return this piece of #$%^, but I've already written all over it in my hopeless attept to make it my lesson planner.

This book has been a wonderful guide to use for my teaching this year. Before this book, I found that I was always pulling lessons from here and there. Now, I can go to one place for some great ideas! I love how each unit leads to a bigger picture. My students have really benefitted from spending a focused amount of time on one topic, rather than something different every day.

Third grade teachers have a lot on their plate, and this book really helps to fill it with the most substance.
When your wife talks - you so often listen ( or should!) My wife has been working with this series for the past year. She uses this resource in her work with classroom teachers and administrators in her capacity as a literacy consultant.
Rarely have I heard her rave so about curriulum and how she is presenting this most relevant information to teachers. Yet this is just what she is doing. She speaks of the "user friendly format" as well as the wealth of information teachers find at their fingertips. The teachers she works with have used this either verbatim or by adapting lessons accordingly.
This book is a must for any teacher!

This book tends to the needs, interests and developmental stages of a third grader. It is chock full of really great book suggestions and beautiful lesson ideas. I like the way it does not dictate but it gives you good ideas for your classroom. It is rare to read a book written just for the grade level I teach.

This book is a big disappointment with a hard to follow format. The lesson ideas are so immense that each one could be a unit in itself. These lessons lack any clarity whatsoever. It is obvious that the authors have not spent enough time teaching in real life classrooms in their haste to become "experts."
