Set of 2 DVDs - French Audio with English

SPECIAL FEATURES: Biographies, Cast/Crew Interview(s), Collectors Edition, Documentary, Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access

Nizza/A propos de Nice - 1930: What starts off as a conventional travelogue turns into a satirical portrait of the town of Nice on the French Cote d'Azur, especially its wealthy inhabitants.

Jean Taris, Swimming Champion/Taris, Roi de L'eau - 1931: The second of Vigo's four films is about 10 minutes long. The subject, allegedly, is a French national swimming champion, Jean Taris. Inventive (for the time) technique, while overuse of it occurs. Interesting shots of Taris doing the backstroke. The movie achieves a genuine state of grace.

Zero for Conduct/Zero de conduite - 1933: After the holidays, Caussat and Bruel are going back to the boarding school, where their life is sad, dull, as all prisoner's ones. But there is plot setting up for a revolt.

L' Atalante/ Le Chaland qui passe - 1934: When Juliette marries Jean, she comes to live on his ship, on board of which are, besides the two of them, only a cabin boy and the strange old second mate Pere Jules. Soon bored by life on the river, she slips off to see the nightlife when they come to Paris. Angered by this, Jean sets off, leaving Juliette behind. Overcome by grief and longing for his wife, Jean falls into a depression and Pere Jules goes and tries to find Juliette.

Jean Vigo is considered one of the great masters of French cinema, despite having died at the age of 29 and only making four films. This 2 disc set presents restored versions of his films, including his two great masterpieces - L'Atalante and Zero de Conduite, also included are a range of special features guaranteed to please.
