Book Description

February 1991 9810203756 978-9810203757
This is a rigorous introduction to the theory of complex functions of one complex variable. The authors have made an effort to present some of the deeper and more interesting results, for example, Picard's theorems, Riemann mapping theorem, Runge's theorem in the first few chapters. However, the very basic theory is nevertheless given a thorough treatment so that readers should never feel lost. After the first five chapters, the order may be adapted to suit the course. Each chapter finishes with exercises.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"... covers an unusually large amount of material in a relatively few pages, and does so in a way that provides an excellent survey of the results and techniques of function theory ... the presentation often provides excellent insights into the subject." Mathematical Reviews, 1992

This review is from: Complex Analysis: An Invitation (Hardcover)
The book is well organized and covers an amazing lot of ground at a very fast pace. I find it suitable for a second course in complex analysis.

Proofs of the theorems are clearly outlined , but the reader is usually expected to fill in some of the details and that requires a good advanced calculus background, up to the elements of Lebesgue integration, series and point set topology. The exercises are comparatively easy (no solutions) and there is a lot of interesting gossip and good references to the literature.
