Editorial Reviews

Review

From the reviews: "It is indeed a tour de force … . The editors … have chosen to explore … challenging aspects of anorectal dysfunction. … It has been conceived and written as a specialist text … and as such has been highly successful in achieving this goal. Clarity of text accompanied by pertinent illustrations and line drawings allow the clinician to read for interest or ‘dip in’ for reference … . I have little doubt that it will be a well-used addition to my bookshelf … ." (Alastair C. J. Windsor, Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, Vol. 49 (10), 2006) "This book comprises two sections, the first dedicated to anorectal testing and the second to clinical anorectal assessment. Sixty-seven authors have contributed to this comprehensive reference book on anorectal pathophysiology and the editors are to be congratulated on its publication. … the editors have produced a most comprehensive guide to the identification and assessment of anorectal dysfunction." (Ann Branigan, British Journal of Surgery, Vol. 93 (4), 2006)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, May 12, 2010
This review is from: Complex Anorectal Disorders (Hardcover)
Buy this one. Even you did not like Wexner :-)
Other books may be good for "textbook", but this book is better.

This book is well organized, friendly reading, and offer a lot of useful information in "real" clinical practice! For example, "Between 31% and 40% of patients develop fecal incontinence within two weeks of their stroke; however, this number goes down to about 3% to 9% after six months follow-up" (page 733). "The intention to treat success rate was overall 53%." (page 721, Functional Results of the ABS), "Rectocele operations performed ... Sexual dysfunction was reported in 22% of patients." (page 650), et al. It is very useful for anyone working in this field, whether your are proctologist, GI man, GS man, stomy nurse, physiotherapists...

Anyway, you need a little clinical practice experience. If you are medical school student, another books (Normal and Disturbed Motility of the Gastrointestinal Tract. by A.J.P.M., M.D. Smout (Author), L. M. A. Akkermans (Author)) may be much simple and clear.

If you are practice clinically, do not miss this book. Reading this book is not only re-education, and I found it is more fun than reading other similar books like "The pelvic floor". I recommended this book.
