Editorial Reviews

The powerful tracks released by the Blue Man Group on their second album, The Complex, will now be available in surround sound, on a special new DVD-Audio release. This follow-up to their Grammy nominated Gold record, AUDIO (which was also released on DVD-Audio) represents a significant departure from their regular performance material. Aided by some of today's most intriguing vocalists, such as Dave Matthews, Tracy Bonham, and Gavin Rossdale of Bush, the Blue Man Group have transcended their instrumental-only approach, into more of a full-on rock ‘n’ roll presentation. Every track has now been mixed into 5.1 Surround Sound, so you can experience this groundbreaking recording with more depth and dynamics, than ever before. • DVD-Audio title includes Surround Re-mixes of all 14 tracks • DVD-A surround & stereo, plus DTS for DVD-Video players • “Behind the scenes” interviews and tour footage • Music video of Sing Along featuring Dave Matthews • Music video of Exhibit 13 a powerful 9/11 tribute song • Special “Mix Breakdown” track- Your Attention • On-screen biography and photo gallery

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds the best in DVD-Audio format, March 13, 2006

Those of you who enjoy the seperation of sound from a 5.1 surround sound setup with dvd-audio capability will really enjoy this disc. The swoosh sounds of the air poles seem to bounce around the room with you right in the middle of the action. I own the Complex rock tour dvd and enjoy listening and watching to it, but this recording makes better use of the surround channels to really envelop you in whats going on.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Multi-channel Music Should Sound Like, February 22, 2005

This DVD-Audio is a vast improvement over the original CD stereo release. The five channels really give the music a chance to breathe. By comparison, the stereo mix of this album sounds compressed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Audio, but a good one to have anyway, February 13, 2006

If you're trying to build up your DVD-A collection with good music you can listen to again and again, this is a good choice. I don't find this quite as replayable as Audio by Blue Man Group but it won't disappoint.

My biggest beef with this disc is that it's not the Blue Man Group I fell in love with. It just seems a bit less inventive and unique than their earlier efforts. They've introdruced more elements of a driving rock sound which works well, but it shaves off a bit of that pizzaz that BMG has.

This is a well made disc, sonically. And the visuals while playing certainly look better than Audio (not like that matters much) but the menu system is horrendous and easily one of the worst I've seen. Perhaps if you played it on a regular basis you'd figure out how to navigate the menu screen, but believe me when I say it is unusual and as unique as the sound of Blue Man Group's music. Unfortunately in this case unique isn't a good thing.

Overall once you get past the menu it's a good disc with a number of good tracks you'll go back to but Audio is better overall if you love that unique Blue Man Group sound.
