Caponegro loves the language,

This review is from: The Complexities of Intimacy (Paperback)
Mary Caponegro has a beautiful grasp of the language. The first story is especially haunting. Her stories suspend the reader in a dream-like state, surrounding you with more words than you know what to do with. The writing is lovely, but it doesn't make for a quick read. The characters are quirky and original, the situations unique, but... the book does little to pass the time. I would recommend it for those who truly love great manipulators of language.

Hot and Cold,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complexities of Intimacy (Paperback)
Caponegro is, at times, a brilliant, insightful, stunning writer. In this collection, the shorter works are, by far, the best. The centerpiece of this book is a novella entitled The Son's Burden. In this piece, the narrative voice is cold, distant, and absolutely impossible to endure. The Father's Blessing is one of the most eerie, upsetting, disjointed tales I've read in a long while and, probably, the best piece in this work.
