"A Stellar Read!"
"James Bond-- only sexier!!"
"Warning!! This Book is Addictive!!"

From Amazon Top 100 Best Selling Author, Alexi Lawless, comes a powerful new series of thrillers unlike any you've ever read...
In a refreshing shift from typical romantic suspense and thriller novels, where women are often seen as decoration or sidebar content, Lawless has crashed onto the scene in a big way. Her debut novel, Complicated Creatures sets the stage for a trilogy that features a strong female lead character, Samantha Wyatt, who critics are calling a "sexy, female James Bond."

"Alexi Lawless is a brilliant writer! Her new emotionally charged provocative novel, Complicated Creatures: Part One, is filled with excitement, sensuality and suspense. Reading it left me breathless more than once, for a variety of reasons and left me wanting for more!" Don D. Mann, Best-Selling Author, Inside SEAL Team SIX, (Hunt series)

"Ian Fleming Meets Danielle Steel, only WAY better than both!" -Shadra Bruce, MomsGetReal Blog

"Complicated Creatures excited me, engaged my imagination, and gave me characters with real emotions." -Ronda Del Boccio, Best Selling Author

"What a pleasant surprise this was! For a debut novel it's a very well developed story written in a sophisticated, engaging style. The author has a style of her own - complex, rich and sensual descriptions mixed with a lot of action." -Ellie V., Ellie Reads Fiction Blog

"Consensus: Alexi Lawless knocked it out of the park."- Red Head Sara, Blogger

"All of the characters are outrageous in the best possible ways." -Evan Couzens, Author

More About the Author

ALEXI LAWLESS.
Corporate Runaway. Novelist. Wanderer. Bourbon Drinker.
...and Now: Amazon Top 100 Best Seller

It's simple really: I wanted heroines who were strong, powerful women in charge of their kingdoms, dreams, and destinies. So I began to write characters I wanted to read, and as soon as I opened that Pandora's Box-- well, it became a passion. The kind you quit your 9-5 to devote your life to. The kind that wakes you up in the middle of the night to write. I hope you enjoy these characters as much as I enjoy writing their stories.

Every once in a while I'll run across a novel that manages to be romantic, engaging, emotionally charged and well-written... keeping me locked into a story that has all the elements of a truly entertaining read. In the novel Complicated Creatures that is definitely the case as Alexi Lawless weaves a story about Jack Roman falling down the proverbial rabbit hole when he falls for Sam Wyatt, a woman as seductive and alluring as she is mysterious and multi-layered.

The well written novel has a sharp, lush and vivid writing style that makes you feel the motions of the characters, sucks you into their gravity and brings this story to life. There was one paragraph that really brought this fact into the foreground...

"One glance at the way he looked at her, and Sam knew exactly what he was. A lethal habit, she thought. The accelerator on a race car. A halo jump on a crystal clear day. The best possible rush with the worst possible consequences."

This is a novel that sweeps you up and takes you on a thrilling ride of romance, seduction, danger and an emotional roller coaster. It left me eager for more and desperate to see the journey Sam and Jack found themselves on next. Sam and Jack are two characters that manage to forge a connection with each other and with the reader, creating a compelling story that feels real and authentic as well as exciting and entertaining.

Overall, this was incredibly engaging and it was a promising start for the series. I'm definitely eager to read more.

What a pleasant surprise this was! For a debut novel it's a very well developed story written in a sophisticated, engaging style. The author has a style of her own - complex, rich and sensual descriptions mixed with a lot of action.

I was surprised how in-depth she went in the discussion of military operations, real estate business practices, martial arts, Italian cuisine and so much more. I did like the careful attention to detail we see all across this book, but the information became overwhelming at times. It made things look too good to be true, taking away from the otherwise realistic nature of the story and the characters.

That said, I really liked Sam and Jack and all the rest of the supporting cast. It's a densely populated world and it took me some time to figure out who is who and to keep track of all characters. Sam definitely stands out among most contemporary romance heroines - she is strong, independent, and at the same time loyal and caring. She is perfect at presenting a particular image of herself - self-possessed, composed, in control. but deep in her heart things are not exactly like this.

Jack was just the perfect hero - smart, sexy, successful. He fell for Sam and he fell hard. It was a surprise for him but he was open and honest, willing to risk his heart and take a chance. The relationship was not easy with Sam keeping Jack at a safe distance, never truly revealing herself to him.

The thriller element was very engaging and kept me involved throughout the story. There was a particular plot twist in the end that I didn't see coming and it makes me very anxious about the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this book for several reasons. Interestingly enough I had selected it as a train read for my frequent commute to and from Chicago.
The story is has a portion of it unfolding in Chicago and the author obviously shares an interest in some of my personal favorites such as Trump Towers and the surrounding area along with several other areas in Chicago.
However, we don't stay in Chicago the entire read as this is definitely an international thriller.
The pacing is quick throughout and while there is a good amount of romance and suspense, the author also weaves action into the fabric of this read. The writing style is spot on and the author delivers.
There are a few parts throughout that are a bit racier but they fit perfectly in the story and the pace stays consistent throughout this read. There are definitely no lags.
The lifestyles of the main characters take them out of the country and the international backdrops add substance to a story that is already very nicely delivered.
The author does an excellent job describing the characters. The attention to detail is spot on and was much appreciated as it added good depth to the story.
It is a fast paced story with a back drop of obsession - not just obsession with a person but the obsession of living the "good life" and doing well.
Sometimes when one pursues an obsession, the scars of the past are uncovered and that is the case in this story.
The main characters also learn once you've been in the fire and enjoyed the heat- well, everything else then seems tepid. They also learn- nothing is without risk when you play to win.
Stellar read.

Okay, so this book was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm really glad she did. All of the characters are outrageous in the best possible ways. There's a good mix of sex, romance, and fighting, both military and otherwise. Sam and Jack make for a great pair in the way they constantly push and test each other out of their own comfort zones, and their supporting cast is just as interesting.

It does end on a big cliffhanger, but with the major plot twists (plural) near the end, I think I'm more excited about reading the next book than anything else. Sam runs the show, and I'm looking forward to coming along for the rest of the ride. If you're on the fence, buy it; it's definitely worth the read.
