5.0 out of 5 stars Joie Calio is Awesome!, January 22, 2004
This review is from: The Complications of Glitter (Audio CD)
The debut album from dada's Joie Calio is an excellent trip to follow. The album is full of excellent acoustical masterpieces.Joie Calio knows how to make a cd that is filled with upbeat harmonies and good vocals the song "morning sickness" being a charm. Also the song "About Monkeys and God" a song Joie recorded at Times Square New York. The cd is just great music to listen to. Get it now if you don't have it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my treasured albums, October 21, 2011

Happy, sad, and that voice. I finally found a copy of this lost gem and it was well worth the search. If you are reading this you likely know about Joie Calio and his music. I would recommend trying to find his 2008 release "X Levitation Cult- Happiness in Hell". It is also outstanding, solid songwriting, singing and melodic. Thanks Joie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great upbeat, acoustic set, January 8, 2005
This review is from: The Complications of Glitter (Audio CD)
It's like dada, but it's not. Without Mike Gurley's Hendrix-like guitar, Calio turns introspective, and cranks out a really sweet, mostly acoustic set. Actually this disc was more upbeat than I expected based on the samples I had heard. The title song and "Sugar Pill" in particular are really upbeat, almost Top-40ish sounding (maybe from early 70s top 40, that is). Calio's voice sounds great, the songwriting is supple, and the instrumentation is all just perfect. If you made it to a dada show in the past year, you probably hear Joie performing "Morning Sickness" solo. The rest of this disc is just as good or better.

Calio has a great voice and this cd has a very mellow mood to it, but several catchy tunes including Morning Sickness, Dusty and the opening track Similar to Sugar Pill. Similar to Dada's more melodic tunes like Dim and Dizneyland. Complications of Glitter is also a top 40 sounding hit.
