The pilot was very good. Things moved fast, not much time to get bored. There is alot of anticipation as to what will happen next, and what does happen is generally unexpected. This new series is quite a roller coaster ride and promises to be a first rate program. Takes place in Chicago, present day. A woman doctor's brother is in trouble with the local mob. The Dr. agrees to help the mob out by patching up Goodfellas, if they leave her brother alone. The brother is a bit of a looser, so we can expect alot more trouble in future episodes. However, things tend to get out of hand for the good doctor, both with the mob and with everyday situations at the hospital. Good stuff, well worth your time to check it out.

I really enjoyed this show and am so sad they cancelled it. Yes it had bad numbers, but Fox really should have moved it to another timeslot to see if it would find a good audience. I'm pretty confident it would have.

I enjoyed the mob part of it, but really enjoyed the hospital part more. Would have loved to see continuing storylines with that part of the cast. Loved Zeljko Ivanek's Dr. White and the storyline of his wife and stepson dying and then the mysterious young man coming into the hospital who had the same name as his stepson, was the same age as his stepson would have been, and who's only relative, his mother, had died. Was really hoping to get something neat out of that.

But... I guess we won't. :(

William Forsythe is a great actor, often overlooked. maybe Tom cruise had some good movies, and Brad Pitt had some good movies, but aren't you sick of all the overkill press coverage of some of the A-listers. Forsythe in recent years is often typecast in television series and movies as a mafia boss, but he's still a great actor. Check out his performance in the early 1990s movie "The water dance." Mob Doctor lives up to its name: Its about a Mob Doctor: the big mob boss in town is the family friend that puts her thru school. The series strikes a good balance between hospital medical drama and crime drama. With a recurring role played by actor Michael Rappaport as a rival gangster. Although Rappaport in real life is the obnoxious, pompous street-tough that he plays in movies and television. Go to youtube, and see Rappaport in clips of the show "dinner for five," and see him bark to jon favreau, "jon! jon! jon!!" as if the other three people werent at the table.

NO SPOILERS:

UPDATE 1/7/13:

Having (sadly) just concluded watching the series finale, I feel compelled to update my rating from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2. The series got progressively better. I watched the last 4-episodes back-to-back to. The "majors" seem unwilling to give a program a chance to build an audience, which is a shame here. If you have not watched in real time, watch on video.

I generally don't gravitate toward medical dramas, though organized crime is another matter altogether. So it would be fair to say that "you had me at Mob!" The second word "Doctor" was almost inconsequential. Also, the new Direct TV DVR allows the recording of 5-programs simultaneously with 800-hours of storage capacity.

The show stars:

"My Boys" Actress Jordana Spiro (Grace) is a Chicago "South-sider" made good. Her on-the-books job is that of a hospital Resident. Grace also moonlights for the the mob, as pennance for her brother's debts

William Forsythe (Constantine) who is no stranger to playing mob roles, is an "OG" and seemingly retired mob boss who is recently released from prison

Michael Rapaport (Moretti) took over Constantine's turf when he went to prison and is holding Grace hostage to her brother's debts

What kept me interested through the first 3-episodes are all the dynamics at play:

1.) Grace juggling life as an Resident with working for Moretti. She also has a Doctor boyfriend, though may have feelings for her Ex who is a mob enforcer and right hand man to Moretti. There is an on-going competition with another Resident that has hospital connections and her constant moral dilima re: how far she is willing to go.

I thought with a name like Mob Doctor, the show would be simplistic. It runs more like the Sopranos. It held my attention at the first episode and continues to build a great plot.
