This Book Makes Me Sooo Hungry!, August 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Compliments Of The Chef (Hardcover)
This is a great book, truly. I just gave a copy to a friend who's an amateur gourmet cook, and he's very pleased.
The basic premise is that a number of chefs from fancy Los Angeles restaurants have contributed recipes for some of their signature dishes. The photos of the food are vivid and mouth-watering (see p. 120 -- The Four Oaks' Horse Radish Crusted Salmon with Orange Vodka Broth is tempting me right now).
The truly neat thing is that the author interviewed each chef with the same set of questions -- some of them about cooking (i.e. "What are your five home pantry staples?") but others are personal and offer a peek into someone else's private life ("What's your typical breakfast?").
Always interesting when you get to discover that a famous chef's favorite snack food is ... They make have finely developed palates, but they can still eat junk like the rest of us.
All in all, a real delight, and a great gift for anyone who loves food and likes to cook.
